Title: Osage Character Bow
Post by: Weylin on January 21, 2013, 09:00:33 pm
This is my latest bow. It is osage orange, 67" ntn 55# @ 28". The tips are ebony wood, the hand wrap is leather, the finish is 8 coats of Tru-oil and the string is fastflight. I'm really happy with how this bow turned out, it took virtually no set (it had some natural deflex in the top limb which I left alone), it draws smoothly and is a pleasure to shoot. I hope it's new owner likes it. (And thanks to Carson (CMB) for taking the fancy photos)

Stickman, Thank you. Dont be scared of some character, just take it extra slow and trust your fingers as much r more than your eyes.

Thanks, Zion. It didn't seem that gnarly when I started but I definitely had to be careful as I went along.

Thank you, rsp3 and Badly Bent

Thank you, Don. I like the ebony for everything right now because that's all I have.  ;) Luckily it looks pretty good with most things.

Thank you for the kind words, Keenan, Cody, SlimBob and Kip.

Thanks, Gordon. I don't know about a style, I just kinda cringe make a bunch of sawdust and hope it will shoot when I'm done.

Thanks, Dave and Pappy.

Carson, I did make it to shoot with Steve and Bryce. It was fun. I broke 2 arrows and lost another so I'm down to 3. I really need to rustle up some feathers here soon. :-\ I didn't shoot the osage bow because I didn't want to scuff it up before I hand it off.  O:)

Thanks DVShunter, I can't take credit for the pics. Carson was my cameraman. I need to make friends with someone on my block that has a fancy camera so I can get pics like this of all my bows.

Thank you, Dwardo!

Thanks, Lesken. I really like working osage. I'm hoping to get my hands on some more soon.

Thank you for the kind words, Danny, Will, Muffin and Bowman. I appreciate you taking the time to look and comment.

Weylin, you know you are going to need more than just a fancy camera to take pics like that!   ;D Just kidding, your bows make any cameraman look good.  Sorry that braced photo is focused on the fence.. ::)

Carson, I have to hand it to you. You went above and beyond with your picture taking. You even laid down on a wet, dog poop-strewn yard to get the full draw shots.  ;D

Thank you, bob, knapper and Brad. I'm glad you like it.

Hey Weylin, I'm Proud to have this be my first post on PA!  Gorgeous work and I can't wait to shoot it!  I asked for bow to use as a template to guide me in my newly found bow making interests and had no idea Idea I'd end up with a museum piece!  Best birthday present I've received in a long long time.

Thanks bro!

bow101, Thank you very much. Sanding is literally the worst part of making a bow, but it pays off. I just grit my teeth and get it done.

Dan, you're very welcome! I'm glad that you are so excited about it, that eases the pain of letting it go. As for being a template, I think it's a great design for a first bow just don't copy all the wiggles, dips and knots.  ;) That and make your white oak bow a bit wider. Happy Birthday, buddy. I'll see ya soon.  8)

Druid, Thank you. We realized when we were done with our photoshoot that all the fulldraw pics were angled.  :-\ Unfortunately (or fortunately  ;) ) this bow is off to it's new owner. Maybe Dan will feel like posing for a full draw shot so we can see it in pure form. i'd like to see it too.

Thank you, DuBois!

Thanks, Gaur. It definitely made for slower going. I learned a lot doing it though.

Yep, what Don said.  That is fine.  I think you have a distinct sort of "Weylin" bend on your bows.  I like it.

I am truly honored to own this bow. Even after making some of my own this one is still my favorite. Still shooting after a year well over 10,000 shots so far. It has exhausted two full sets of arrows. Thanks for letting this one go Weylin!
