My son Maxwell is having some health problems and he could use some thoughts or prayers. Tomorrow will be the 4th day in a row at Childrens Hospital seeing doctors and specialists. Today he spent several hours getting MRI's. His blood pressure has been climbing over the last few weeks and we can't figure out why. He is not overweight. In the ER it got up to 176/116. He is also having spells where his heart races and pounds. He had one last night while trying to go to sleep. His chest was pounding so hard you would have thought he had just ran a marathon. We are seeing cardiology specialists next. .Some of you have met him. He came to the Classic with me two years ago. He is a good kid and I'm very worried about him. I would really appreciate any thoughts or prayers from you guys.
Thanks,
Clint

Prayers sent, for him and you and your wife and the rest of the family also. Just throwing this out there, but have they checked his magnesium level, not just the blood level. (His blood level could be fine, and he could still be deficient in it, as his body will leach it from his bones to keep a certain level up.) And his potassium levels? If it is OK with his doctors, ask them if when he has his next case of tachycardia, (big word for rapid heart beat) if it would be OK to give him some magnesium supplements, and some potassium supplements also. God bless, and I pray that all ends well with their search for the problem.
Wayne
P.S.
If you do not want to take supplements, Bananas are high in magnesium, and potassium also.
Wayne
-
Your son has me and my wifes prayers. I hope all goes well.
-
Thanks Tracy.
Wayne I'm not sure what his Magnesium level is. They have done a lot of blood work on him and just about everything came back normal. We will ask about his levels when we see his doctor next week. I'm really thinking it is an issue with his heart. I think a heart monitor will be what it takes to get a final answer. They can't get him in to see the Cardiologist until Wed. Tomorrow he is having an echocardiogram. He has been having spells all evening where it is just pounding away. He is very lethargic. Since we got home today I don't think he ever turned on his computer or his phone. He worked on some homework and then went to bed early.
Thanks again everyone.
-
Docs are full of questions that is why they call it "Practicing" medicine. I had kidney stones that caused my heart to race before - but in a healthy young person - i just don't know. Will definitely pray for wisdom for the docs your son sees.

You have my thought and prayers, too.

You got it, Buddy. I hope y'all can get some answers.
-
Thanks. We are hoping tomorrows visit to the Cardiologist will tell us something.
-
Clint. I have been in the heart issue boat from the time I was born. I had three heart surgeries by the time I was 21. Other than that I am healthy. This last issue was almost exqctlky the same thing as your sons and I was diagnosed with Wolfe Parkinson's White syndrome. Basicalklky the heart grows a few extra electrical pathways and it causes excessive heartbeat even while resting and not all the time either. I had a simple cardiac ablasion and was released. I had my surgery at a children hospital even though I was 21. My thought are with holy man.
-
Just saw this Clint. I'll keep him in my you all in my thoughts.
-
Hope things go well today. Thoughts are with you and your son.

Thanks guys. We just got home from a couple Dr. visits. We still don't have any answers but they did put a heart monitor on him. I'm hoping that will tell them what is going on. Thanks for all the support.
-
The heart monitor is a great step towards diagnosing. Tell Max we are all out here pulling for him.
-
Yes Clint, tell Max we are pulling for him. Unfortunately these things take time but at least now they can moniter Max's heart to lead towards a remedy.
-
In my thoughts and prayers, please keep us updated. :) Hope the moniter tell the story. :)
Pappy
-

-
Prayers from Buckeye land for you all !!

Any update on your son OO?
Matt
-
We were at the Hypertension specialist yesterday. They put a 24 hour blood pressure monitor on him. Monday we turn in a 24 hour urine test and they are taking more blood to check for a couple rare diseases. Still haven't got the results from the heart monitor. Lots and lots of tests and no answer yet. They are doubling the dose of his blood pressure medicine. He is back in school and trying to get caught up.
-
My prayers are with your son and family Clint. My son had a very similar situation last year. He had to wear a monitor for 60 days. It was a very scary and frustrating time for him and us. Everything turned out alright with him and Im sure it will with your son also. Shoot me a pm if you want to talk about it more.
-
Thanks for the update Clint. You are all in our prayers.
-
Thanks guys.
-
Still praying for you.

I wanted to give everyone an update on my son. We finally got the heart monitor results. They could see where his heart was beating fast and hard, but they said it wasn't an irregular rhythm. It was just reacting to a stress on his body. There isn't anything wrong with his heart. We also got the 24 hour blood pressure monitor results. It is lower while he is sleeping and higher during the day. Because of that, they don't think it is the renal artery stinosis, a problem with the arteries going to the kidneys. So basically they still have no idea what is causing his high blood pressure and rapid heart beat. He has started to feel and act a little better. He is starting to get some energy back also which is great. But, on top of all that is going on, he has broken out in a bad rash. It started on his torso and has spread to his arms and legs. His pediatrician has no idea what it could be. He wants to test him for crohns disease. My wife has been doing a lot of research on line and thinks he might have Celiac disease, which is a condition where the body's immune system over reacts to gluten. My son loves bread and rolls. For Christmas someone got him a bag of rolls from Frisch's because they knew how much he liked them. We are going to call his doctor tomorrow and talk to him about it. Celiac disease can cause high blood pressure, skin rash, bowel issues, low vitamin D level, and muscle spasms He has all of those.
We appreciate everyones support throughout this ordeal. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Primitive Archery folks are the best group of people in the world.
Here is a picture of his rash

Pappy
-
Keep the faith Bro. My cousin has Celiac. Went thru hell till Docs figured it out but he is great now! There are soooo many alternative gluten options in the stores now. Still in my prayers for healing and comfort for him... Brian
-
Clint you and your will be in my prayers. I went thru a something like that a few years back. I was told there is a sack in the middle of the heart that controls the electrical part of the heart beat and for some reason mine got to miss firing. There are drugs that they could have put me on but lots or side effects and pricy. We took the wait and see road , I still have them sometimes but not as bad or as often. It is scary it feels like a bird in your chest trying to take off and spikes your blood pressure.
-
Wow Clint, I've been away too long. Praying for y'all down here in Texas.
George
-
Clint
I would go gluten free now and not wait on the doc ,it wont hurt anything to go gluten free for a while anyway and you will all be a step ahead of on it !
Gluten is one of the top allergens of today !!
Still praying and see ya soon !!
Guy

But, on top of all that is going on, he has broken out in a bad rash. It started on his torso and has spread to his arms and legs.
My daughter gets a similar rash from sorbitol products. It took us about two years to put the pieces together and figure out what was causing it. She always got the rash after she got sick, so we assumed it was autoimmune. The first time she got sick and we tried giving her pills instead of children's medicine, presto, no rash.
Has he been taking lots of liquid meds? You might see if you can get it formulated without all that extra crud they put in kids medicine.
-
More prayers on the way from Pa, hang in there Clint.
-
Still praying for your family.
-
Thanks guys.
He hasn't taken any liquid medicine. The Dr. called today and said he was negative for Crohns disease which is good news. We keep eliminating things one at a time. It would be nice to finally hit on something. At least then we would know what it is and what to do about it.
-
Tell Maxwell, he's got a lot of folks pulling for him.
I can only image the frustration of unknowning. You all are still in our thoughts and prayers.
-
for rash relief try a baking soda or oat meal bath. If all else fails use good old fashioned mud.
-
While waiting for some answers, might try altering his diet for gluten etc. I sure hope you guys get some answers and solutions soon Clint. Praying!
Tracy
-
We aren't supposed to change his diet until they test him for it. Eliminating gluten could affect the results.
-
Hopefully all goes well for your son, and all prayers go out to you.
-
Hope all goes well Clint. I'll be thinking about your son.
-
Praying for your little man, and mom and dad too.
-
wow Clint, this must be driving yall crazy not knowing. but it does sound like they have eliminated some serious issues. have to say i hope its the gluten. a pain in the arse but more easily dealt with than some of the other issues they've been thinking. praying brother, praying every day.
-
Sounds like your tracking it down Clint, Happy to hear your more serious worry's are not the problem.
I'm keeping your family in my thoughts.
Kevin
-
My neice went through something like this when she was a year old turned out she was celiac. Took a lot of tests to narrow this down process of elimination. My daughter went into shock one evening when we found out she was allergic to sulpha. Not an easy time for a parent went a child is ill. Be strong he looks up to you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Thanks Leroy

WE ARE GETTING CLOSE TO AN ANSWER!!!
His main Dr. through this, a hypertension specialist, called today with the results of his last round of bloodwork he had done to rule out a few rare diseases. Everything looked good except for two results. They were both low. He didn't say exactly what was low but he did say that it is a strong indicator for an extremely rare genetic disease. There are less than 80 confirmed cases of this disease worldwide since 2008. He is having us do one more blood test that will confirm his diagnosis. The bad news is that most insurance companies won't cover the cost of the test. He said we will have to fight them on it and he would send as many letters or forms as it took to try to get them to cover it. He said it is very expensive. From what I have been reading online, he will have to be on medication the rest of his life to control it. We are very excited about the possibility of finding out whats going on with him.
Thanks again to everyone who has supported us through all of this. We really appreciate it.
More good news. His rash is starting to go away and yesterday he came home from school and said he had a really good day. He took part in Gym class for the first time since this all started. You would have never believed how excited he was about playing wiffle ball.
-
Gtreat news buddy. Screw the insurance companies. Let the docs do their work and pay them $10 a month.
-
i with Chris on this one.as long as you are paying them something, there is nothing that the can do.i am glad he is feeling better.still prayng for you brother.
-
sounds good, i'm with pd , as long as your making payments
-
Still praying for ya all !!
-
Hope everything keeps improving and things work out man. Its tough when the little ones are ill. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the update and good news Clint. Push the insurance company and turn them in if nessesary. They always denial first then they wait to see if you will drop it, then they look into weather you have a leg to stand on,,,,,,,,,,,Standard practice. You pay for coverage, make them step up. Good luck Bro we will be praying for you all.

Pappy

Sounds good Clint, more prayers on the way.

This is looking positive, time to really bear down and keep praying!
-
Thanks guys. We have been talking to our insurance. The test is $4000. They will let us know in 7-10 days if they are going to cover it or not.
-
While they are screwing around waiting you out, contact your state's oversight department for insurance. They can be incredible help with showing insurance companies where they have squirreled away their compassion! >:D

-
hey Clint, just wondering if you got any news yet, Bub
-
We have been fighting with insurance all week. They did agree to cover 85% of the cost of the test, which we have been told is somewhere around $3400-$3600 range. Childrens Hospital is getting everything arranged and lined up for the test. They are telling us that there is only one specialty lab that does the test. They will draw the blood at the hospital and immediately send it to the lab somehow. We are supposed to hear back from them early next week. In the meantime his blood pressure is still fluctuating. They double the dose on his medication and it isn't helping much. He has good days and bad days. We can tell he is still feeling bad. He goes to bed early most of the time because he is so tired. That is not like him at all. But he has good days to and seems to be almost back to normal. His Dr. said he might go ahead and put him on the medication to treat what he thinks he has. From what we have read it might take several weeks to get the test results back.
Thanks for the continued support everyone.
-
85% is better than nothin', hang tuff brother, Bub
-
Still praying here, Clint.

Safe bet we are all still in there for you. Tell Max to keep his chin up!

I hope Clint doesn't mind me saying this but after talking with him today it seems like his last post still holds. They are waiting on the tests and he is up and down. It sounds like maybe more up than down lately. I say keep the thoughts and prayers goin!
-
This past week he was doing better than he has all year. He had lots of energy and was almost back to normal for a few days. Last night the wife called and said that he was starting to feel bad again. He is still feeling bad today. All he has done is sleep. We are still several weeks away from finding out the result of his DNA test. They started him on the medicine and his blood pressure seems to have stabilized in a normal range. Now if we can just figure out what is going on with his stomach. He had several tests and Dr. visits last week and they haven't figured it out yet. There are a couple of more tests they want to do.
-
You guys are in our prayers clint. My grandson travels to Idaho to see a Doc. I get his info, He may be a great person to talk with. I know my daughter calls him a lot.

Thanks guys. He is better today. Going back to the doctor on Thursday.
Thank God.
He is still in my prayers...
-
I thought I would give everybody an update. We are still waiting for the results of the DNA test. Probably have a few more weeks to go before we hear anything. The medication he is on is keeping his blood pressure in the normal range. He had several tests done on his stomach issue and everything came back clear. They have him on a prescription laxative to help keep him regular. That seems to be helping. He has good days and bad days still but he is starting to gain more energy and be more active. He was outside all day today just being a normal kid. Its the best we have seen him since this all started at the beginning of the year. He rode his bike for probably two miles. It was good to see him smiling and laughing again. I hope he is able to stay this way. Thanks again for all the support guys.
-
this is good news brother.at least he is feeling better.we are all praying for you.keep us posted.
