Title: help! / turning into a follow along...
Post by: soy on January 15, 2013, 07:19:06 am
Ok 2 Questions 1 do I take the dflex out of the far end Or leave it be... To do I skin, use the skins I have, or find new skins?... This will be my TG trade bow If it were to show up on your doorstep what would you like???

I would imagine the skins will darken with finish applied What say you???

1.  I would try to heat the deflex out.

2.  That screams rattlesnake.

Heat it, get copperheads and keep it.  >:D
Title: Re: help!
Post by: PEARL DRUMS on January 15, 2013, 08:50:21 am
I would heat in 3" of even reflex and skin it soybert.

Even reflex it and skin with something. :) Very cool stave. :)

Not much to add to what's allready been said. By even reflexing it, it will be easier to tiller with all those sexy curves.
Title: Re: help!
Post by: MWirwicki on January 15, 2013, 09:20:52 am
Even it out and reflex.  Gotta be a snake; any snake...

That'll look great with any skins you got, real nice character in that snaky stick!

I'm with will....that stick deserves copperheads.
Title: Re: help!
Post by: autologus on January 15, 2013, 09:50:06 am
Blue Racer, Rat Snake, or Copperheads would be my choice of skins given the thin width and snakeyness.

Post by: Pat B on January 15, 2013, 10:33:06 am
I would even out the reflex but not give it too much, maybe 2" to 3". Then tiller it out completely and shoot it at least 100 times before adding the skins. I like snake skins on snakey bows. The type of skin is up to you. Any would look great.

Post by: coaster500 on January 15, 2013, 10:42:56 am
That stave will make any snake look good :)        and yea reflex it!!!!

That is going to be SaaaWeeeeet!!!!
Title: Re: help!
Post by: Dvshunter on January 15, 2013, 12:01:39 pm
Keep that skin and put on some copperheads like will said. I wouodnt use the exotic unless you need it for backing.
Title: Re: help!
Post by: Stringman on January 15, 2013, 01:05:04 pm
I think that skin is gonna be awful thick for that stave. It will be tough to get the skin to move side to side enough to conform to the flow. And I'm with Will that stave should have copperheads and be held onto. Not sure I could give that one away! Very nice looking start on that bow, though. What specs are ya shooting for?

That is one sweet stave! For sure reflex and cook the belly cuz narrow sage loves to be cooked some. If ya got some I would use narrower skins and save those wide ones for another bow... Brian

What i would do if it showed up on my door, hmmm, probably hit it with a shovel and then realize it wasn't alive.

Thanks for the imput guys...i do believe that i will reflex it if i were to keep it for my self i would more than likely leave it...it was going to be my personal rig but i feel it would really be awsome to get somthing like that...so do on to others ;) i feel it to narrow for wdb so if anyone has Copperhead skins they would ne willing to deal on please pm me
Title: Re: help!
Post by: KellyG on January 16, 2013, 12:11:26 am
soy go with what ever skin you like. the hedge under any skin will lighten them up form all the bows I have seen post. But copper head are some of the best looking on hedge. But, cottonmouth, corn and any other would look great on that bow. Man I hope you drew my name, heck you don't have to put skins on if that is the case I will love it either way.  ;D

That was my original thought being corn snake... unfortunately after 2 years looking I haven't been able to find corn snake I'm possibly dealing with a copperhead right now.... sometimes you just follow the path it leadsthe you down I guess ;)

Okay now the string is just a bit too far outside..... what to do
1 steam the handle and adjust from center...
Or
2heat the tip of the bottom limb and pull it over?? the bottom being the closest
 (http://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j380/thadsoy/photobucket-45689-1358665598212.jpg)

The only thing I'm worried about an option 2 is when I reflexd it I got a small crack in the back of the lower limb

  Soy,
A slight bend in the handle will move the tips safely. Won't take much...

Post by: soy on January 29, 2013, 05:23:16 am
Ok i have toasted the belly... and I have to say it looks pretty cool... I've got it to braceit and have some adj. To do on the tiller...it has yet to cast its first arrow....soon very soon
 (http://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j380/thadsoy/photobucket-53679-1359447263148.jpg)

One more question i was thinking i was not gluing on anything ...however with copper head skins on the way i am considering tip overlays...so what y'all think cocobolo, Jamaican Ironwood, or nothing...

Man I don't know how I missed this one. Gotta bump it to the top again.

Beautiful piece of wood there Soy. And I love the handle art. That's gonna be so awesome.
That's one thing that's great about the bow trade is that every guy on here's droolin and goin "Man I hope that's comin to my place!"
I would definitely flip if that showed up at my door!
