Title: Invictus -Hickory English Longbow 95 pounds at 29 inches draw
Post by: twilightandmist on January 06, 2013, 03:34:49 am
This is my newest ELB, a hickory selfbow. she draws 95 pounds at 29 inches, which is the strongest bow i have made to date. it is 68 inches NTN, and i intend to get real horn nocks when i get a chance. it has taken about 1/2 inch of set, which i found very surprising. the back is trapped to half width. as always, all comments are welcome and encouraged! if there is any information you would like that you cant find here, feel free to ask about it.

p.s. the archer's hood in the picture was made by me, and i have a few more in varying styles if you would like one. enjoy!

Excellent! :)
If I was to be hyper critical I'd say the last 1/3 of the upper limb could flex a whisker more, but I'm being a bit picky.
To get that draw length/poundage from that relatively short ELB is a great job.
Horn nocks are a pain at first, but once you've done a few they becom fun.
I bet you'll make a scarey figure standing in the woods with that colw up and that bad boy bow  >:D those Frenchies better watch out.
Del
(I generally go for, as tall as the archer plus maybe a couple of inches)

Whew!  It hurts just watching you draw that thing.  Nice job though!

( Be careful with words like "buy" or "sell" on this web forum.  It is against the rules.

Del: Thank you! looking at the pictures, i think i would have to agree with you about the outer limbs.
Chamookman: thank you! working up to this draw weight has been a long time coming.
MWirwicki: thank you! its plenty strenuous on this end too ;) i have altered the post to omit the questionable statement.
lostarrow: haha thank you! what kind of detail shots are you looking for? i can post some tonight.
Scott:thank you! the lady on the couch had a migraine :(
Zion: thank you!
Simson: thank you! now i just gotta find some horn nocks...
Pearl Drums: its an inch and a half wide at the handle. there is no trapping at the handle, and the width gently tapers from about 5 inches after the handle to 3/8ths inch nocks.

well, i have been working up to it for about 2 years, give or take a few months. in that time, i have worked my way up through progressively heavier draw weights, becoming comfortable shooting each one before going to the next. its taken a good long time, and a few pulled muscles, but i can comfortably shoot this bow now :)

Howdy and excellent job!   I'm surprised you got so little set on a relatively short bow.   In addition it looks to me like the handle section slightly flatter than the limbs.   Not a bad point, just saying that the limbs are holding well to great stress!
For those who haven't tried shooting heavy bows, I found it easier than expected, but training and technique is important.    Ron

thank you! and yes the handle is slightly flatter. i left it more rectangular and less trapped than the rest of the bow.
