Would a 53 1/2" l, 1 3/4" w piece of red elm make a good bow. And any recommendion on style? Thanks for any input.

It had better bed through the handle or have a short draw

Sounds like a simple bend in the handle with some flipped tips n tiller it out to 50@25 or 26" if you want a adult bow from it. Make a smooth transition and fade into the handle and narrow it to at least 1 1/2"..n make your width 1 3/4" wide at the fades and run that width parallel till at least mid limb then taper to 1/2" nocks
