Title: My first cane arrow
Post by: Matt G. on December 29, 2012, 10:15:12 pm
Here's my first cane arrow I've ever made. I got some river cane for Pat B and finally got a chance to make one up. It weighs in at 673 grains with the 160 point on it. Thanks for all the guidance Charlie and Pat!

Here's a close up of the nodes.

Thanks for looking.

Looks great!  You did a good job.  I think you will find that cane arrows are well worth the effort.  They are a little more work than wood shafting, but they are really durable.  I have made some that have been literally shot thousands of times.

Very nice, what did you use for that nock indicator?

looks great there.  You will love the cane, and the time spent doing them is well worth it for sure.

Thank you all! It flies like a laser dart and hits where I'm looking with authority.
Youngboyer that's a trick I learned from Pat B. it's a few dabs of TB2. Dab it on and lay so its facing down. Gravity does the rest.

Matt,

Are there two arrows there?  The cut of the fletching is different.  Looks good either way, nice job, dpg

No it's just one arrow. Good eye though. I started with a modified P/Y cut fletch but they are noisy. Look cool though. So I made a custom shield type fletch by hand afterwards. That was also my first self nock. Well after a couple practice runs on scrap.

Very nice, Matt. Not bad for a professional fletcher!  ;)  FYI, the cane is hill cane and not river cane.

Thanks Pat. I knew that and just typed the wrong kind. Duh !!!
I also saw what you were seeing about the sharp edge by the nock groove. I had my sinew too high. I filed if down so the grooves will protect the string. Thanks again for all the help!
