I posted this bow, in progress, in an earlier thread but didn't want to bog that thread down with even more pics so I started this one anew. The elk antler tips are large plates because one tip had a split of sorts that scared me so I plated it. Arrow rest and front accent thing is also antler. The back is just green stain over brown stain and covered with tru oil. Bow is about 62" and 45# @27. Thanks for looking and any comments.

Dang, its amazing you got anything out of that! I guarantee i would have exploded that within an hour or two ::) Bryce can tell you that i broke a darn clean vm stave ::) oh well
-
Hey bud that turned out great!!!
-
Thanks mr. muffin, it wasn't easy.....at all. It actually shoots really nice with 500 grn arrows. We'll see if it endures................................................
Thanks Bryce, not as clean as your VM bow but I'm getting there...............................!
-
Very nice, turned out well! ;D
-
Steve your bow is waaaay better bud I would kill for a bow like that.
-
Steve, that is some really nice work...start to finish, you nailed it. 8) I love it.
-
looks like it didnt take much set either! nice!
-
Thats an AWESOME bow! The natural look of that piece of wood is just wicked. I like what you did with the handle too.
Do you think it's a durable shooter? or more of a wallhanger? either job im sure it would do great as 8)
-
Like Bryce said in his thread, most people make bows for shooting not wall hanging ;) granted, if you think its going to blow, hang it up and dont touch it? either way.
-
Steve don't make no wall hanger! That's a slayers bow!
-
Very challenging piece of wood for sure.Love the finish work. :)

Yeah, love it!
I just love the cuspy switchbacklook.
If Antoni Gaudi had made bows instead of weird funky buildings he'd have made 'em like that ;D

-
that is one great looking bow. you did well with that stave thats for sure.
-
That turned out very nice! Great job on a tough stave. :)
-
2 words...Wild Thang!! 8)

Man you turned that into a nice bow. That was a really wild looking stave you started with, makes the finished product that much sweeter Steve. I like that handle also, suits the bow real well. I have a similar looking bow in the works now and needs a few more inches of draw length and I'll know if it will survive, hope it comes out as nice as that one. :)

Wow! Great job in very challenging stave. Jawge

That is Fantastic, just MAGIC.
-
This is very, very nice, the finish looks great.
-
Nice!

Wow, thanks alot guys. It seems like every bow I make takes about the same amount of time--alot, because as I get better at making them I'm always increasing the challenge. I've gotten to where I can lay-out and tiller, and make shootable, everything I take on, but I lack in areas of finish, overlays, handles, heat treating, etc. So I still have a ways to go before I feel fully accomplished.
Zion: I'll take this bow out, probably today (suppose to be sunny!) and walk the range and shoot it alot. I'll do that a couple of times and call it a bow. If it survives I will consider it a shooter.
ionicmuffin: This stave started out almost V-shaped as the handle was set back with nearly straight limbs about 5". It lost that quickly and was down to 2" after the long string. One limb had a natural deflex in the middle so I worked the other limb so it took some set in the same place. That was the hard part--finding that balance between proper tiller and introducing some set.
Thanks, Del, Pappy, VMBs, Carson.....
Cardboardduck--Its definately worth it and, really, all it takes is more patience
Thanks much to the rest of you who commented and I look forward to seeing your future bows. It was all of your works that kept me going on this one!
-
awesome bow brother.that stick looks challenging.i thought the one i'm working on was a challenge.turns out mines not that challenging great job.
-
Magic truly Magic!!!!
That is a testament to your skills but also the resilience of VM!!!!
-
its been said before "wow". Makes me feel like a wimp cuz at this point in my journey I would'nt touch a stave like that for anything more than killing a snake. Really good job my friend on what is obviously a very challenging stave. Danny

Holy smokes :o :o :o
-
WOW! THAT is so SWEEEEEEET! Nice job!
-
It actually stopped raining this week so I took the bow out for a shoot-in. Here's some pics after about an hour of shooting. It has good color.
