Post by: Shondy55 on December 22, 2012, 08:15:41 pm
hey guys iv'e got a nice piece of osage but the growth rings are all very small and close together.  its a nice straight stave.  my question is how much sapwood should i leave on for a sapwood bow and whats the heaviest i could go with it? the stave is about 63in long.   thanks!

Just take the bark off if you can't chase a ring.

Agreed, i just built my first with sapwood an it worked out fine. I dont have experience with heavy bows but I would say it would work fine up to 70 lbs or so, depending on earlywood/latewood ratio.
