As promised, here she is! unbacked cherry shortbow, 53 inches long, 27 inch draw. inspired by the western indian shortbows on pages 192 and 193 of TBB volume 1. i've put over 1,200 arrows through her to date, and she's holding solid! the limbs are about 2 and a half inches wide at mid limb. she's mighty fast, and a sweet draw. the tips are slightly recurved by hand, giving it a very pleasing shape and profile, and giving some cast. as always, comments welcome and encouraged!

:o
cool...

That's a lot of bend and weight from a piece of Cherry. great work! Was it a board or a stave?
Gabe
-
nope, this one was harvested from a tree.
-
Do ya have an unstrung pic.?
Id like to see the pleasuring shape you mentioned.
-

Another nice one Mr.McArthur(correct me if I misspelled). Sapwood?. It looks like you chased down to heartwood.
-
its MacArthur. quite a common mistake, though :) and yes, it is completely heartwood. i find that the sapwood is finnicky in tension and imparts a larger set than just the heartwood
-
Awesome bow and it is very pleasing to look at strung and unstrung. The tiller must be perfect, I would think.
-
thank you!
-
Another theory shot to hell, lol.. Great Job!
-
8) that's some pretty high draw weight... congratulations ;)
-
Connor, I'm utterly amazed by your talent. You keep surprising the hell out of me every time you post a new bow. Keep up the tremendous work and by all means keep making these bows.>>Fred

That's Awesome!
-
Hey, I had a 50/50 chance with the name. Great job !How is it for shooting?
-
Wow thats a nice bend. 54-60" is my favorite length. Nice weight on it too, i bet its great to shoot! Gotta love the effect a higher weight has when shooting these short ones!
-
thank you so much, all of you! what a response :)
-
Nice bow. Looks alot like the bows that I like to make.
-
Wow, another amazing bow. It's great to see how you are pushing designs.
-
Very nice bow,you are a stout young man 72lbs.wooo. :) Lots of bend in a short stick, you pulled it off nicely. :)
Pappy
-
Wow. Great job on a short piece. Thats a hunting bow if I ever saw one. Keep up the good work. Danny

Ok, so i see how this works now, T&M. You see us on PA and decide you'll show us a think or two about bowmaking. so you sign up and start posting all these sweet bows one after another to make us feel like slackers :-[ Well, it's working! >:(
But seriously... that is some fine work you've been putting on the board for us to lust after. I love this "little" cherry bow, don't think i've seen unbacked cherry at 72#!
Keep shavin and keep the bowporn coming >:D
-
Sweet!
-
I live very close to you. I want some of that Super Cherry you have. Any cherry Ive used from around here would crumble at that short length and very, very heavy draw weight. And to take a 1/2" set? My tillering skills obviously are lacking greatly. Bring a stave and some skills if you get time!
-
whereabouts are you located? i'd love to bring you a piece, i actually have some seasoning right now in my garage
-
Right in the middle of the state just south of M57 on Rainbow Lake.
-
Wow! :o this bow is just gorgeous and so awesome! it seems very easy to carry around because of the size, I would love having one of those!
-
Cool bow.
-
very very cool, I love short bows

thank you. and she's a joy for rabbit hunting ;) just like my two 53 inch static recurves
