How do you make slate heads I have some access to it and i want to tip my arrows with something other than nutters.
-
Take a piece of slate,a water hose and a concrete block.Just rub the head of slate on the block with the hose trickling on it to wash away the tailings.Just keep rubbing it till you get the shape you want and the sharpness.Leave the slate point a little thicker than you would a knapped point.

ok sounds easy enough ;D

i made a nice slate head i really like it but how do you get the slate sharp? Each time it starts to chip when i get down to the edge. going slower helped but how do i get a sharp edge. should i use sand paper?

A file an wear a dust mask, the dust is bad fer lung tissue......................bob

ok will try a file. this moment i am using a carbide broadhead sharpener it doesnt work on steel heads but it works well on slate. ;D
-
just put it on a arrow shaft it looks cool. i like it alot. unil i learn to knap (it will be a while ;D) i will use alot of slate

David if you get a triangle file and get creative you can make some wicked serrated edges. ;D
-
sounds like fun ;D so far my points have been on the small side but once i get some more slate im gonna really have some fun ;D

it turns out my stuff is a slate lookalike. thats why i was having some sharpness issues.
