Title: saved some wood from work
Post by: Dvshunter on December 07, 2012, 11:01:42 pm
I managed to salvage quite a bit of wood from a jobsite I was clearing. I got some very nice the logs from here and also some help splitting them. Here are some pics. The logs I got were elm, black locust, maple, and cherry.

That is a nice bonus. That splitting method you got there sure looks easy on the back.

reminds me of the time we split a couple of truckloads of firewood (for the lady who let us hunt on her land) with a track-hoe. the log splitter wasn't running right and there was a track-hoe available.... wasn't my idea. one of the guys I hunt with worked on construction equipment and made the comment that he had seen countless loads of wood split with a track-hoe.

What a great idea! I can see it now. "Hon, do you care if I buy a backhoe and buldozer for splitting my bow wood?" She has let me buy my toys but I don't think this would go over well. :) Jawge

HA! I was just thinking about this post the other day when I saw the city crew taking down some large cottonwood trees. I stopped because I thought they might drop a really straight elm next to it, but no joy.

I wish you would have posted this last week, the city had set aside 6 big chinese elm logs for me, they were close to 1,000# each. I had no way to get them out fast enough and they had to cut them up. They had a back hoe on site they would have probably would have split them for me if I had thought about it.

Hand split some Sweetgum this weekend. My back wishes there had been a backhoe around to use in this fashion! I still have one more, (the biggest one!) to split but I'm affraid I'll run out of wedges...
