well its not just for me, its my entire engineering class that could sue those prayers, the reason is for our final for ou wengineering class we literally have make something to allow us to walk on water for the entire length of my schools pool, the competition is Saturday and so far no one has come even relativly close to crossing it, and if we don't cross it we automatically fail it and it is worth 20% of our grade,at this point it is going to take nothing short of a miracle for anyone let alone the whole class to pass, this is also on top of other finals approaching, test, regular homework and so on
i am starting to think this is not possible

Somehow, I'm sure you'll make it. Just do your best and the rest always falls into place with such things. I remember the feeling, though.
-
Great big styrofoam shoes Noel. Dont forget to lash them together so your legs dont float too far apart. Make them about 24" long so you can get a stride going as well.
-
we tried something like that, we are now making basically a large floating hamster wheel...
-
Get a couple thousands ponds of corn starch and dump it in the pool. The pool will turn into a goop you can walk across. Look up myth busters walking on water. >:D >:D >:D >:D
-
If you had a blade on the bottom of the floats could you not use the same sheer forces as in ice skating to propel you forward?!? Like a paddle in the water?!?

that's what i was thinkin', small mind's, i mean great minds think alike, Bub
i was thinking to build a trough 3' deep and 3' wide, save on the corn starch and the cleanup
-
Get a small plastic swimming pool, put it on a raft and walk round and round in the pool while you pole your way from one end of the pool to the other >:D
-
A round ball with paddles on the outside that you can get inside of.

Really prayers for a contest! ::) I wish you luck, and if you done your homework you should do fine.....but do you really think prayers are appropriate??? Think you should save them for something more life shattering! ???
-
Could you make a floating bridge out of 1/4" luan and 4'x8' sheets of styrofoam insulation? Some I-bolts and rope to hold them all in line. Pick your skinniest classmate, have him back up and run really fast across it.
-
Drain the pool!

Good luck, pray for wisdom and understanding,I bet you will come up with something. No real idea to offer,I do good to make a bow that shoots much less ,walk on water. ;) :) Vinemaplebows, the Lord does want us to be happy and says ask for what you want. :) :) to a college student that is life shattering. ;) :)

Two 4' x 1' x 1' Styrofoam pontoons lashed at the end of three parallel, evenly-spaced 1" x 5" x 6' strips of exterior grade plywood. Sit across all three, and don't stand on any one. Add your own paddle.
Of course, I'm not sure I'd call that walking.
-
How about a clear plexiglass T-bar just under the surface. ;D You would not have to be free span, you could have verical supports when needed.
-
Give this a look it seems these kids had the same challenge you have maybe it can help you out http://bigstory.ap.org/article/fla-students-walk-water-class-assignment

thanks for the digestions, surprisingly everything ended up working out( at least for me, half the class didn't make it) what is a a little irritating, is that over 3 days i spent 27 hours working on what was basically a giant hamster wheel, and it ended up not being able to stand up right, i found this out 3 hours before the competition, but me and my group somehow found a ride to home depot, grabbed some random foam, trapped flip flops to the foam to make shoes and it worked, it only took us a half hour to build which although im glad i made it, i wish i didn't spend all that time making the other thing, although the teachers did see it and gave it the most fear inducing reward ::)

Just came across this, and Pearl drums took the words right off of my little typing fingers. The military tried something like that once for Nam. it was short lived. Ninjas had something similar, more like buckets, and poles. The ones the military used had paddles on the under sides, that when you slid the pontoon forward, it folded back against the bottom of the pontoon, and when you slid it back, the blade came down, and propelled you forward. The straps like Pearl Drums said, keep your legs from doing the limbo split! :o ::) You could even put bar with a hinge in the middle, and you just slide your legs forward and back alternately. You could put a keel at each end, and the middle of each pontoon to help keep from doing the split. Also you could use a pole with styro foam chunks on each end to help with balance, like dipping one end or the other to help you stay vertical. The Squirrel cage sounds interesting, but it would have to be wide, or have out riggers all over each side for stability, and I guess maybe paddles on the outside, look something like a water wheel. ;) ;) But for what it is worth, I sent a prayer up for you, and I even tried to look as cute as I could. :o Doesn't quite look as cute as when I was five. Actually it doesn't look cute at all. :P :( But I think it is the effort that counts.
Good luck and let us know how you did. That way I will also know wether or not to continue with my cute face routine during my prayers. Could be why they haven't been doing too well lately. ;) Good luck. Have you thought of simply making a pontoon bridge? ??? I hope all goes well.

OK, I guess I should have read further. I was thinking this Saturday, but none the less, I am glad that you succeeded, hopefully you can look at your attempt with the wheel design, and learn, from your mistakes. Stability is key in something like this, as well as weight per area of water displacement. Maybe a double wheel would have worked, with a smaller wheel in between. But glad all turned out right. 8)
But now I still don't wether to continue with the cute face routine or not. ::) :P
