Im finishing off the a t/d and had an old rubber roll up grip laying around. It fit nicely and feels pretty good over steel. Do you like it? Not primitive? Look crappy? I havent decided what way to go. Its this or whitetail leather dyed golden color, then stitched on. It would be easier to decide if I knew for sure it would be a hunter, or a just an easy to look at bow on the rack.....
And yes, that pile of osage bow blanks (nice work Matt/Gary) in the background was intentional, and is for MY OSAGE LOVIN' FRIENDS ONLY to look at......you know who you are brothers and sisters.
-
Looks like you need to put a handle on that other walking stick! ;D
I think the grip looks good.
-
not bad, it could be a temp solution, or permanent, since its a take down it would be harder to put something else on than that. Plus at take down is hardly primitive ;)
-
I wouldn't use it, because I don't tend to like the way rubber feels, or looks on a primitive bow. But the fit is nice. I've got no technical reason against it, just aesthetics and feel.

you dont have to glue it do you? if not just use it as a temp fix to your problem, im inclined to agree with ross, but if you don't have much else to use then it will work fine. i prefer comfort and aesthetics, but often if i don't have anything else ill opt for something that will get the job done. up to you, if you got nice leather that's not super nice ( ::) ) then i would use it because it looks better and would probably feel better.
-
Shoot it in till you decide it's a hunter or not. Then put your handle cover on.
-
Ryan those are actually "grounded" mater stakes. Jawgey taught me how to make the stakes, I came up with the insulation part myself...
muffin you dont have to glue the roll on type at all. Its either on, or rolled off the bow. Thats simple! The leather grip I would stitch on would be from premium whitetail leather and would look mucho' better. But looking better and working better generally dont require the same ingredients.
Beadman that a good thought.
-
I say use it Pearly. A metal take down sleeve isn't exactly primitive either.
-
I got some nice pink leather that wood look good on that...lol
Use it for now,cus if you end up not liking it,you can easily remove it and put the leather on I stead
-
I say yea. Looks great man.
Oops I looked >:D
-
He saves the pink leather for his white wood bow handle wraps ;D

Uh oh....I think I may have added a golden tanned whitetail grip on the HHB bow I made him? Clint you better send that back for a re-grip, I want to make it right.
-
At least the one I sent him was the king, and not some crap second string wood >:D
-
Y'all should start wearing robes and chanting. The cult of the Osage worshipers. I love it. ::) ::)

Someone hand me another cup of yellow kool-aid :o

hell it look's fine from my house pearlie, if it feel's good, use it, Bub

I want to know one thing. All you guys that are liking the rubber grip, is it because you simply want to see this bow bent right now and cant wait for me to stitch a grip on? Be honest you bow porn addicts, it will make you feel better to admit it.
As good as the rubber feels. I think Im going with whitetail leather and stitching. I wrapped some leather around it and it felt just as good and looks sharp as a bowling ball. I will revive my thread with new pics in a bit.
Thanks for the input and laughs!

That whole Anonymous thing is honored more in the breach than the observance. We know who you are and what you did.

As a bow porn lover, I'm getting very frustrated with all you what about this or my thoughts on this... Threads here lately. I wants my bow porn.
Having gotten that off my chest, I'm glad you decided to go with the leather. Of course it's a hunter, it's osage to ole closet hackberry lover!
-
looks like it would work good since its a take down....... I'd hunt with it ::)
-
Gagging (finger in throat).. ??? ...Just kidding. Whatever works for you, brother. I'm not a fan of rubber, but shot a recurve for years with a tennis wrap, so go figure.
-
And here is plan B. Sorry for the super cropped photos, cant leak out any more views of the bow yet. I like plan B better. Plan A was surely easy, and weather resistant, and had a great feal. But good ol' deer skin is just nice to grip to.
-
That looks better ole closet hackberry lover ;) good one dvs
-
I think the first one looks cool but I have to say I like the second better. Something about leather....
-
That's what I'm talking about. 8)
-
Ahhhhh, much better. 8)
When I look at self bows (take down or not) I just don't like the look of rubber on them. Be it grip or string silencers you just can't beat leather. That grip looks good now and will look great once it has some discoloration from use.

Never really cared for the rubber grips on a selfbow, the leather is much better.
By the way love the rubber roll on's on custom glass bows. Looking forward to seeing her bend. :)

Okay, I'm glad you took that rubber thing off. Now pull that string back and show us the money shot!
sorry, couldn't resist - too much talk about bow porn....
-
Now that is more like it!! 8)

I figgered you woul dlike it better Bulldog! I do to. Finish pics this afternoon when I get home. Indoor pics just make bows look bad and it was dark by the time I was done tinkering with the grips. I like to take pics outside in the daylight to give the bows their just due.
-
Drums: Go with the leather, my Osage brother. I know, I'm not fond of doing grips also. It's my least favorite part of making the bow. But when it's finished, it looks great. Try that roll-on rubber thingy on your pistol grip. Okay, the suspense is killing us. Show us the bow!
-
First Pearly asks us if he should use a rubber. Then he talks about porn. Now he's showing us some skin. I'm getting a little nervous about what might come next?!?!? :o

Glad you went with the leather, Chris. I bet that thing will last longer now anyway. (Rubber woulda caused the steel to sweat and that leads to rust which weakens steel and ultimately kaPOWW!)
Well, maybe it just looks better. ???

I'm itching to see this bow!
Ahh sunlight, I forget what it looks like.

waiting suck's, give us the porn!!!

Im glad you went with leather. I personally never liked the way rubber feels on wood, but that's a different topic. Great job on the stitching. Do you have tip overlays on the bow? If so what color are they, do you have leather the same color as those? Ive always liked bows with contrasting colors. Either way the bow looks great as is. Great Job.
