The mail man drove up to my house today and dropped this off. A beauty piece of Osage.
The return address was smudged away but I could read: Chris something something Michigan ...
Just need to know where to direct my 'thanks'

Wow! Thats a beauty for sure. Looks to be in the 58-59" range with about 3 1/2" of natural reflex. It also looks like the date on the end says 10/something 10? Cant quite make it out. Lucky guy Brycey boy.

Did the last name have about 23 letters in it? ;D

Where the heck where yah when I was handing out yew staves left and right this August?
I'll put yah on my list, and get back to yah.
-
I figured your a short bow kind of guy and that stave sat in my corner for a good bit. It needed a new home where it would be taken care of and cared for, I picked you. Thanks again for the Yew stave.
Steve's "Seabass" niece has a bow I made from a little side split I got off that stave when I was cleaning it up. Hopefully he posts some pics for you to see. That will be kind of neat. Two bows 2000 miles (or so) apart that look almost the same. Her's is 60" long and 24 @ 24, elk tips and whitetail wrap grip. Its a semi-bendy. Its excellent wood to. Your going to like its stiff spine. Challenge it.
-
Challenge accepted. I'll morph it into a nice static. Thanks again!

that is looking good Bryce.did you leave a little sapwood on the handle section?btw i got my stave(or should i say log)today.it looks great brother.better sharpen up those tools buddy for that osage.it is not buttery soft like the stuff you Oregon guys are used to.
-
I sure did Steve, left the sapwood on the handle and the nocks. I looked at it and said to myself.....yeah that's a good idea. Why glue on rawhide to the back of the handle(like I usually do) when there's sapwood right there? And why glue on antler nocks when there's some pearly sapwood ALREADY THERE!
I just finished breaking her in and got her nice and smooth. Waiting for the base handle wrap to dry then it's time to finish.
-
i think that was a cool idea about leaving the sapwood as an overlay.now you don't want to do that on the limbs though.bow is looking very cool.can't wait to see her finished up.
-
The Yew Bowyer in me told me to leave the sapwood on. But the Osage junkies say it's worthless.... So I removed it :)

Maybe one of these days you can make the 2 hour drive down here and I'll show yah how I do things.
I doubt you'll be impressed.
-
Ive been hard pressed to get my licence... Ive been waiting to get it for forever ::) in any case, i should have it soon enough to make that drive maybe right after xmas?
-
if you have time before hand i have a friend that wants to go rock hound with me out at the glass butes probably somewhere like the 15th or 18th? not sure if i will make it before xmas though, my friend is also a bowyer ;D got him addicted to ::)
-
Sounds good to me. I should be done moving by then.
-
alright, ill do my best to be able to get down there!
-
I like the sapwood on the handle.

Geeze I must of been snoozing to miss last August. So I deserve to lose.Must of been on the trading post or something I guess.Sure....... put me on your list, but please don't smudge the return address though......LOL.You will get another mystery package I'll guarentee it.
Now do I have to get some special type tools to work that soap wood?.........LOL.I can't drop it on the gravel a bunch while working it....can't bang it against my work bench etc.......LOL.Man that'll be hard.
By the way very nice job on your yeller bow.
-
Haha it's not that soft.
Thanks I might take pictures and post today, not sure.
