Title: Iowa Rocks?
Post by: Prarie Bowyer on November 27, 2012, 12:45:32 am
So I stumbled onto a thread about knappable rock in Iowa around the Red Rock region.  This is walking distance for me.  What kinds of rock are around in Iowa and good for knapping and how do I find and recognize it?

Iowabow packs tons of the stuff outa his creek down near Burlington.  I can't remember what they call this rock down by Burlington, but if you were to ask him he could tell you what this Burlington area rock is called.

Burlington.

I just like saying Burlington.   >:D

Yep it should be burlington plus a little glacial till of a mix bag. That is part of the mississippi formation. You can go to the university of iowa geo website to research your areas formation.
