Title: Red Mulberry Photo-reactivity
Post by: Scaramouche on November 22, 2012, 08:00:52 pm
I know that Osage is photo-reactive - darkening under exposure to UV radiation - but does anyone know if Red Mulberry, a cousin of Osage, reacts likewise?

yes, it will turn a rich dark brown over time. There are lots of mentions online (http://www.lathescapes.com/) of it doing this and even here on these forums.

Mulberry darkens pretty quickly, too.

More data on red mulberry (http://www.wood-database.com/lumber-identification/hardwoods/mulberry/#pics)

In my experience, much like it is less intense of a yellow, it also becomes less intense of a reddish-teak-brown once it has aged.  But don't think it doesn't get a rich color when the finish is built up nice and well done.  Mmmm, it can be reallllly pretty!
