I used to belong to this message board a long time ago and this is my first post back! Hello everybody!
My question:
I remember seeing folks do carvings on the fades of a bow right above or below the handle. Does anybody do this or have any pictures of this? I was very impressed by these and would like to try it.

Their is an article in PA, couldn't tell you the issue though. Hope this helps.
-
Thanks Dana, I'll check my back issues

The issue I'm thinking of is Summer 2001. The article is called "the Pleasure of Process" by John Sturtevant
He carves Wood Spirits in the fades and thier incredible looking.
-
Awesome! Thanks, I have that issue!
-
are there pics of these carvings available on the internet?

Incredible carvings, thinks for finding them for us to view! ;)

At my age I should not be surprised at anything I see anymore. As Greg said, "INCREDABLE :o. What a way to sign your bows forever. Fact is you would never run out of subjects to carve.

If you use the drop down box in that link that medicinewheel posted there are 29 pages of pictures of neat wooden bows. If you click on any thunmbnail it will enlarge and you can read the text about each bow.

hi mickey! - i got some nice info from your homepage when i started bow-building! for instance my second bow had tip-overlays following your instructions and they looked the exact same as the ones pictured (used plumwood)
thanks to you,
frank

Good deal Frank. Glad it was of some help. Beautiful tips are a sign of fine craftsmanship and one of the first things I look at when examining a bow.
