Hi,
I was wondering what peoples experiences have been for German spruce shafts, I am used to red osier and have tried poplar, birch and POC. I am used to short bows, and mainly prefer red osier, but due to the work that goes into making and waiting for shafts to season i want to take a bit of a short cut.
Thanks
Nate

I have had wonderful success using Sitka spruce shafting. They are just a tiny bit heavier than cedar but about twice as strong.
Have never seen German spruce shafting before. Where are you seeing them?
-
I've never tried it but if I remember correctly :-\ Twig Archery had some when I was looking at stocking up with more poplar shafts. I might have bookmarked that one and will have to go back and look.
I've been trying different shaft materials and keep coming back to Japanese bamboo.

Ya its kustom king traditional archery. I am in need of shafts and they are offering 100 for about $200. Sorry if they are not a sponser, i was just wondering and wanted an opinion. I have never heard of them either, but then again, i live in the stone age :D

I just got a dozen to work with. They say they are lighter than POC. It’s true.
There is more grain run off that I would like to see.
I would not get 100 based on the limited sample size that I got.

I only have experiance with sitka spruce.
I much prefer them over POC. Mostly in durability and touch, minor but noticeable, in weight.
A previous poster said lighter than POC?
Get a heavier spine and leave em long.
You'll have some short (er) arras in no time...
If it were me... Id spend a bit more and get doug fir, SureWood distributes them.
I love the tree and love the arrows they make. Durable, heavy-ish and affordable.
Then again I grew up under doug firs... but the best natural, turned, shafts hand down.

I got quite a few german spruce shafting from Kustom King and I really like them. Use them for my 75# reflex/deflex and never had a problem.
