Hello fellas been a while. Thought I would post a bow and a few arrows to look at.
This is a 54.5" osage sinew back recurve and five dogwood arrows I just finished its appx 48#@25" I painted it with northwest costal designs in the style of one of the Reginald Laubin bows thats in the Spurlock Museum. I think it turned out very well, the dang paint job took almost 9 hours and made me cross eyed at times! :-\ Feel free to comment!

Love everything about that piece of art. Great job. Do you have a good source on-line, for different native art?
Thanks, Graylan
-
Thanks guys. :D
Graylan as for a online source you can do a web search for Native American collections or museums and do a search through their archives and collections. Thats the easiest way to find historical material that I have found.
My favorite bowyer is Reginald Laubin who studied Native bows and really bows of the world in general. He made various types from North America and other regions of the world Including the turkish bows that were so famous for distance and quality craftsmanship. He published a great book on the subject.

That is a nice one for sure. I am getting ready to sinew a bow just like that and was considering a snakeskin backing, but your paint work has me thinking now. I will do a search and see if I can come up with some pattern ideas. What do you use for paint?
-
She's a beaut all right! I've never had the ambition or talent to paint one like that. Good job! Wonderful bow and arrows! Dale

Should of mentioned this earlier but Laubins' series of books for anything Indian is a fountain of correct information.I read it before getting my tipi.

Super job, would love to try shooting that style of bow sometime. Gotta get me a short piece of yew or juniper for that length - cool to see it done in Osage. Really great job with the paint.
