Title: Wood ID?
Post by: Jimbob on October 31, 2012, 03:06:38 am
There was a tree that was cut down by the side of the road, and this is what was left over.  There were no leaves to help with ID :( .  There also werent any pieces long enough to make a bow out of but I figured it would be good for carving.  Thanks for looking.

Just a guess, but I would say black cherry.  Josh

Thanks yall!  I carved a spoon out of a piece of it and just wanted to be sure that the wood was ok to use for that.

Are they the same tree?

The top looks like black cherry to me, it makes a fine spoon!
Leave it to get some UV exposure, in a window sill or somthing. It really enhances the color.

They are the same tree, thr smaller one is from a younger branch I think, and the large one was from the trunk.
