I was a participant in the Tradgang bow swap this year. I built a selfbow and was built a very nice 3pc curve by Mike Tenley / Brushwolf... I don't own a bow that I can't hunt so Mike bow went out today so it could sit proudly with its brethren in the rack.... about an hour and a half in the stand and this brute came in... all 11 points with double brow tine and a bad attitude. He gave me a shot quartering to me a bit. I hugged the shoulder and watched as my arrow as it where I looked. The buck ran about 20 yards tripped got up ran another 20 and expired. When I dressed the deer the top of his heart and both lungs were hit. I know we build selfbows here but I thought it might be OK to share this story with you all.

Good shooting on that nice buck, Kip. I'm sure the builder of the bow will be pleased with your results. 8)

Nice deer Kip Winger! Which reminds me. Did you cut that rock n roll hair off after the band broke up in '94?

Thanks guys, this was my first trip to the mid west to hunt. I had no idea a buck of this caliber would give me a shot but I could not be happier.... I took my Python bow with me to the airport only to find out that it would have cost me over $200 to put it the plane!!! American Air has a rule, if it's over 60"s you pay $190 more plus the extra bag charge. Something to keep ion mind if you fly somewhere with a selfbow. I only had six days so I fly and rented a car....
Drums the hair pretty much took care of itself.... I really didn't have to cut anything. It's pretty thin on top now days. I have two more days and a doe tags to fill. I think I have some patterned and hope to get a video, you know me and videos :) If I get it done I'll post it for fun.... Going to get some lunch and head back out!!!!

Nice bow, nicer buck, and a great story! In my opinion, you owe that man a nice whitetail backstrap dinner with all the fixin's! I bet he's plum tickled that you honored him and his work by taking this deer with it.
Thanks for sharing, Kip!
