Title: My 1st bow
Post by: Starfire on October 27, 2012, 11:04:01 pm
Well made my first bow, been wanted to get back in to archery for quite awhile, so decided to make a bow and go from there.

I know the tiller isn't perfect but it's just to get me started.  Already working on a second one!

It's 66" knock to knock, made from a board of hickory.  Handle is Paduak, Oak and Walnut, the overlays are walnut.

Pulls #45 at 28"  Shot about 100 arrows though it, groups are getting better lol!  8)

Also my first post, been lurking awhile now.

Nice first bow.Is this your first bow ever or just in a while?

Looks good! On your next one try fading the riser out a little more. Usually those will pop off eventually.

I agree with the handle advice. Better to taper the handle into the board gradually.Damn i wish i had a menards around here. Sounds like you guys can find straight boards easily.

Lowes aint got shit. Nice job on your first EVER.  ;)

Congrats on making your first, looking forward to seeing #2, #3 and more. Have fun shooting it and by the way don't be to critical of
your tiller on this first bow it looks real good to me. :)

Thanks!  Actually I had the handle half pop off, so I had to bandsaw it off and actually make what little fade I could, also made sure I roughed up when I glued it back on and it's been OK so far.  Next bow will have more fade.

Also as the saying goes we are our own worse critics!

Good to have you on board 45# at 28" is V good for a first bow, as it's easy to come in under weight.
Looking forward to seeing #2

Yes I was worried about that so really kept watching, at least my fish scale says that, but it feels about #45 also.

A board, hickory again, but planing on a Mollegabet, I really love the design.  I'd have to cut my own stave, I don't know anywhere to get them here besides ebay.
