Title: Glued on Siyahs question...
Post by: Onebowonder on October 19, 2012, 02:49:52 am
I getting ready to try a glued on Siyah bow.  Never done such, but this diagram below is the idea I came up with for doing this.  Does it look practical?  Have any of you done this and did you use a method like this or something else?  I'm planning to use TB2 to glue this up and then wrap the joints with either glue saturated silk thread or B-50.

A four inch long v-splice is all thats needed. No wrapping. Also rotate your syhia's 90 degs or you will have a funny looking bow.... ;)

Lol mikes right. If you do it like that I'm pretty sure your core will split lol. Turn that thing 90. And you'll be just fine ;)

Nope, that's going to try to lever it apart.
The V should be as viewed from the back or belly not the side.
Just like a handle splice.

Here's another visual. The only difference being that the backing overlays the splice.  Not really necessary.

At first, I would keep the siyahs rather short, say 4 to 6 inches excluding the splice, but quite thick, say about 3/4 inch.

Yup, Georgie.  He has my number.  Right down to the four digit extra tacked onto my zip code.

Not really. The continuous backing strip changes things considerably.

If you read carefully, that guy explains that the back strip does not need to be continuous and that he just made it to be like that because of some reason.
If you look at this page, you will see how those bows were made back then:

There is no continuous back strip there.

Still not the same as just sticking it between the lams. In actual pics I see a butt joint where the ear is braced against the belly material.

I'm doing a similar one right now.  Don't do it that way in the pic you drew.  Se the Siyah on top of the bottom lam and feather th joint in then run the backing lam up the siyah a bit.

Bowskin Archery makes alot of bows with Siyahs.  Look at what he's doing.  Seems to work.

Agree. My point is that the ears might be installed between back and belly and the bow will not look funny or awkward as the first few comments were suggesting...
