Title: Looking for a Clean Stave
Post by: bowhntineverythingnh03743 on October 11, 2012, 08:45:19 am
Hey guys-
I am in the market for a clean stave of some sort, Black loctus, Osage, Yew... I have attempted three times with character staves and have been unsuccessful. With learning on my own it has been a challenge. I don't know what people are looking for in trade but I hope I can work something out with someone. I would look to make the stave into a build a long so that I can get all the input I can with it. Thanks to all who look at this and anyone that can help me out with my first successful bow!

Justin,
What kind of bow are you wanting to make? I've got short Osage that might work for a plains style bow or 2 spliced together for a 62" to 98" longbow. I also have some nice black walnut, elm, and mulberry 60"+.

Here's a couple pics of some of the short osage.

Hey Fred,

How long is that stave that is 4th from the right? I am interested in it. Also did you ever get the flute I sent you?

Thanks.

Jon, I did receive the flute. Thought I'd already let you know :embarassed
That one is probably too short to do anything with alone. 42.25"

No problem!  ;D did you send the antler out already? If not I may be interested in that little billet instead. Let me know. Thanks.

Justin, I fired off a message to you this morning. I am still trying to post some pics of the stave I picked out to send you.

The 4th one from the right, could I make sort of a 35-40 pound bow from it? Is there sapwood on it? it looks like you removed it.
If so... What you want to trade for? I have an old circular saw blade. And some cane, but not much.  am going to oven dry it.
