Title: Kansas and Kentucky have BALLS
Post by: nclonghunter on September 19, 2012, 02:30:30 pm
Just returned from Colorado on a muzzle loading elk hunt. On the route out and back on Hwy. 70, while in Kansas I began noticing along the road a LOT of green balls hanging from trees. A stop and short walk found the green balls to be Osage Orange. Hwy. 70 in Kansas (both sides of the road) is  littered with Osage.

Traveling through Kentucky on Hwy 64 also found a lot of Osage trees from Louisville to Ashland.

It was torture to drive by all those trees and not able to collect a few staves. If you reside in those areas then now is the time to try and locate some Osage. Just look for the green balls.

Good Luck

If you went through last weekend, I was home.  I live just a little North of I-70 you could have had all the Osage you could carry home.  I even have a new chain on my stihl.  Maybe next time.  Josh

Gun Doc,  if I had only known. I appreciate the offer. If I go on an elk hunt next year I will give you a shout.
