Hay yew all,i got a call from gun doc last night " hey dude meet me at the truck stop I got something for you" so I meet him at the truck stop in the middle of the night :-[ and he hands me this piece of mystery wood ??? sweet what kind is it I ask he smiles and shrugs his shoulders... I'm thinking maybe Elm, but it's not stringy and a bit softer maybe cherry what you all think?

It Peels off like butter

 And the growth rings are very tight

I am no yew expert but I say yew very tight rings there looks like a good piece.  looks well seasoned to.

You have to meet Gundoc after hours more often.  It looks like he got confused and gave you the yew instead of the hickory he planned on.   Ron

Looks like cottonwood or maybe poplar. May as well heat the shop with that junk soybert. Ol' Josh pulled one over on you.....HONK-HONK!

99% that is juniper only wood I have experience with and that looks just like it, but on second thought I think you would mention the smell, so yew

Kinda nutty...with a hint of mildew, mixed with .....well what do u come up with after the taste test?

Heartwood looks to dark to be yew.
But I'm usually wrong, ask the ol'lady :D

Just a guess, but I would say that yew would have a large bill at the hospital after a taste test.  Josh
