Here's one I just finished up. A big thanks to Kerry at "Whitetail Osage" for a real nice piece of wood and for lots of good advise on coaxing a bow out of a stave. The diamondback skin came from Mike Yancey (who showed me how to properly apply the skins to a bow I built at Ojam...thanks Mike).
She is 63in. ntn and 50lbs. @ 28in. She shoots quick and quiet and right where the eye is look'in.
I'm going to team her up with some cane shafts and bone heads that weigh in at 150 grains + or - 10 grains...I am really wanting to see how they do on some Missouri whitetail.
Thanks to all who have shared their knowledge and put up with my 1001 questions...you have all been a blessing.

Very nice looking bow and arrows. No doubt you got one that will take down one of them missouri whitetails, how about a full draw pic of
that osage & snake beauty. Good luck this hunting season, hope you get your deer.

Lets see a full draw!
-
I like the tips.... Horn? Good work!
-
Sexy,sexy, sexy.........need the $shot >:D
-
Thanks guys...yeah the tips are cow horn. The arrows are cane shafts with some goose feathers that I harvested last fall off the pond in front of the house. (no gas money involved) The bone tips are from cow as well...they seem to hold up well...I have really put the one I use for practice to the test and it is amazing. They are the classic 3:1 ratio. 3 in. long/ 1 in. wide. I am told deer bone is denser and antelope is the best.

Thanks again guys...DVS I would love to chase some whitetails...I still may be chasing elk in October...I will know if I am drawn for a tag in Arizona in a couple of days.
George, did I see on another post that you gather and sell dogwood shafts? If so I would love to buys some and give them a try.

Beautiful work, both bow and arrows.
3:1 is a classic ratio for a point? I can't recall seeing many 3" long arrow points. I'd imagine the bone is lighter than stone. Whats the grain weight on the points, and the arrows?
-
WOW!
-
Nice bow! Nice tips, Nice arrows!
-
Tom, it was Howard Hill that thought the 3:1 ratio was the best for penetration...3 Rivers still sells the Hill 3:1 broadheads.
I like making the bone heads 3:1 because they come out the thickness I like and they weigh what I want...150 grains. Total arrow weight is 650 grains. They fly well from a 50lb. bow and really hit with a punch.

Excellent! Fine looking bow and arrows. ;)
-
Great looking bow, arrows, and points! The only thing that would make it better would be some blood on the arrows! Good luck this season!
