Heres a knotty belly split from 16 year old seasoned osage I started on back at marshall over on memorial day. I had chased a ring and got it floor tillered out when i was up there. All it took was two more hours to be winging arrows with it friday eve. Turned out 60"ntn,slight bendy,at least mid 60's or more at 26"(i never used a tree or weighed it,just went by feel as i tillered),18.8 ounces mass weight, three small holes, and assymetrical by almost 3". It was the only way to lay it out best and still keep some length because of the knots. I never put any heat to it at all. Just au'natural and made a bow the way it was.

Very nice!
-
That looks just like what I expected. Good job pulling a bow from that stave.
-
Great work on that one. Nice example of how osage can bend through knots. Love the full draw shot, tiller looks perfect to me.
George
-
You sure know how to find a bow in a junk piece of wood. Great job on that one.
-
Thats amazing. You can work a knotty piece of wood with the best of them!
-
great looking bow! i love it!
-
Great looking bow from a challenging piece of wood.I'd rather not heat any of my bows either. At least that one layed right for you from a sideview profile.
-
Awesome bow man. Your work is really inspiring. Great variety and well made.
-
Hawkman!!!! That is about as cool a stick as I've seen :)

thanks clint....doesnt look like junk to me ;)
thanks howard...i do my best and try...sometimes ;)
thanks ryan...this looks like one of your bows huh? ;)
thanks beadman...i will heat some staves, but staves like this is usually asking for trouble so i decided against it and think it was the wiser decision
thanks ryoon....glad i inspire someone out there :D
thanks kip....stick describes it well :)
-
Awesome work. Did you drill all of the knots out and when drilling them do you use anything to coat the inside of the vacancy?
-
Oooohhhhh yeah!! :P Nice job Blackhawk!!
-
Another nice one, Chris. I like it.
-
Good job !!
Wish I could shoot it this weekend ,oh well

-
Excellent work! I'd name it "buckshot" ;)
-
another awesome bow by the teacher...
-
Talk about a character that bow is loaded with individuality, looks awesome from every angle and profile. Good call on going with the shape and not heating at all. That unbraced side profile is pure and natural primitive bow, another great bow Blackhawk. You sure make em' nice man.
Greg
-
Now thats purdy!
-
Cool bow!
Looks like Druid gotten some competition at making pretty bows out of gnarly ugly wood ;D
-
Beautiful bow from a challenging stave, pulled that one of nicely. :)
Pappy
-
Thanks Fred...I dug them out with a small broken tipped screwdriver...the wood inside them was soft n rotten. And after I dug em out I shot some super glue down inside them...that's how I do staves with holes ;)
Thanks lesken..glad ya like it
Thanks Matt...I'm sure you'll see her soon
Thanks guy...see ya labor day weekend pal...not sure if your old muscles wood like the draw weight tho..lol

Thanks pappy...see ya soon ;)
-
SWEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Nothing shows off those knots like OSAGE.
-
Love character bows, great job on that one.
-
"Sweet" doesnt do that bad boy justice! love the character knots but am most impressed with the tiller with them. must have been a bugger chasing a ring! Well done
-
Thanks Roy...ya got that right...always nice to hear from a neighbor just south of me down in west by god ;)..
Thanks steve...who doesn't like character bows...not too many I imagine
Thanks eric...yeah you know it was a $#!$# to chase a ring on with those big lumpy raised knots, even if you do follow the grain right they still wanna tear out on ya....it actually wasn't too bad tillering,I think the ring chasing was the toughest, and I like chasing rings and can run down a ring pretty quick, but that one did test my patience if I remember right
-
Very nice bow Blackhawk. You definitely have more patience than me.
-
Chris
I reckon I did not notice the weight on it !
Thanks for thinking about my old bones !!
I bet I could split that thing right down the center and get two bows out of it ! >:D
See ya Labor day !!
Guy

Saaaweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
I love these type of bows Blackhawk...maybe even more than the perfectly dolled up, stick straight models, aw heck who am I kidding...I like em all!!!
-
Very nice....I like all the knots. Looks good.
-
Blackhawk does it again. That sure looks nice 8). I like how you allowed the location of knots to dictate the layout even though you were going to have to deal with that much difference in limb length (maybe not that challenging for you ;)). That is taking what the wood gives ya!
-
I love a knotty osage bow! Looks like you took the pictures on my deer target ;D
-
Thanks okie..
Guy id still like to see ya shaking trying to shoot it..lol ..I don't think it wood split down the center if you tried ;)
Thanks lee...I'm the same way...as long as there done right I like em all too ;)
Thanks beetle
Thanks cmb...I did have to relay it out afte the first layout and stared at it talking out loud to myself scratching my head ::) I don't care how much experience you have, a stave like that will make anyone scratch there head
Thanks olschool...maybe if we put our targets together we d get a "half" way decent target to shoot at
-
THAT is the coolest looking "knotty" bow I've seen. You got some serious skills. Awesome!
-
Pure beauty, Love character bumps!
-
That is one fine example of your craftsmanship. That's a pretty piece of wood. How's she shoot?
Cipriano
-
Its...ok...if you like really cool knot riddled funky cool character bows........winner!

Thank you keenan
Thanks cipriano...it hammers an arrow ...I haven't shot it for accuracy wise much tho...and no handshock to speak of
Thanks soy..yeah its ok I guess if you like that kind of stuff :D
-
Anymore they all shake rattle and roll when I try to shoot them !!
Up till this last Osage tree from the storm I thought I could split anything right where I wanted it to !
Not sure what I did wrong but she threw me a curve when i was looking for a fastball !
Remind me to tell ya about it next time we are together !!

-
Thanks guys...mucho appreciated :D
Rob,I prob shoot 5 days a week easy. I'm doing well, still on a crazed bowmaking spree as always...lol. if you need a stave instead of a piece o crap red oak board then lemme know...makin bows is like riding a bike,so no need to digress to an oak board ;)
-
Really nice bow there Chris. I'd like to try on like it one day as well as a real snakey one. I just arrived back in Thailand after a nice summer in MN. Looking over my wood supply and ideals for projects. Managed to sneak a few billets in my suitcase when my wife wasn't looking ;).
-
