hi guys! - the yellow-one was my third bow ever; made from a dean torges-blank and tillered with dean's kind help through emails!
i shot the bow for quite some time and wanted to pick it up again lately. found the positive tiller had gotten bit too much for my taste and re-tillered the bow which did the bow good! unfortunatly the bamboo lifted two splinters while shooting first x after the work-over. fixed that with umbrella silk and a linnen wrapping and smooth-on.
dyed the bow with leatherdye and sealed with 5 or 6 coats of linseed oil and hardwax. the arrowpass is rattan stained with leatherdye.
started shooting her today and she shoots just fine.
thanks for looking.

It never ceases to amaze me at how resiliant these selfbows are. Even when it looks like a gonner
you guys manage to repair them and make them and yourself happy again ;D Well done frank.

I have 2 Boo backed bows I had to redo and both came out better than the origionals. You did a nice job on this on Frank. Looks like a keeper! ;)
I think redoing these bows is like going to the dog pound for a new dog. They are so thankful you came along they become excellent pets. ;D Pat

hey guys! - i shot the bow some more and i'm REALLY happy with it! the bow certainly does shoot better then before and that makes me happy again because i guess that means it's a better tiller then before, right?!
thanks for your comments!
frank

kept shooting the bow and she shoots just sweet ...BUT i believe the boosplinter repair didn't work good enough; have to reopen the patch! that means the bow should not be listed for BOM!!!
anyone ever removed a splinter from bamboo and replaced it by sinew????
any reply wellcome!
frank
ps: i find it amusing to call it 'sweet' considdering the sound it makes when an heavy arrow launged by such a 'sweet-shooting bow' hits the target 8) 8) 8)

Nice remake. The bow turned out well.
When you repaired the splinter did you run some glue into it before applying the patch?
-
hi mark! - thanks for that quick reply!
no, i did not run glue into the splinter; it was not lifted at all and i thought is what not a good idea to lift it

Why is this fine weapon not for BOM?

well, the bow does need another repair so it's not finished i would say!

hey guys! - i opened the wrapping to see what happend and that was heavy work! ...but i didn't find any further dammage! i had been to nervous about it, i guess!
so i did the same wrapping as i had before: epoxied on some umbrella silk and wrapped it with linen thread, covered with epoxy, too. additionally i pored some superglue into the splinter.
that should do!
