Title: Semi 5 Curve
Post by: johnston on July 22, 2012, 11:09:40 pm
Have not posted a bow in a while and this one was a learning experience helped along
by comments others shared on this forum. Thanks for the ideas guys.

This bow started out as a straight limbed red oak board bow and it exceeded all my
expectations. Pulled about 47# at 25" and was my everyday, literally, shooter. After over
15k shots it had developed about 2" of string follow but still shot real nice. Then I read
a comment from GunDoc about how he and Rich (halfeye) had discussed the possibility
of natives severely flipping tips to offset set and maybe that was where the 5 curve design
came from. So...

Bow is 62" and pulls 49# at 25". Patches are vegetable twine and super glue and are
functional not decorative. Stain is Ritt dye and alcohol , string is B-97. Lightly heat treated.
Has about a thousand shots since the make-over and hits 160 + on the chrono. Real pleased
with how it turned out.

I like that dark stain!  looks like a sweet shooting bow to me....even if you are shootin it with the wrong hand! >:D   I haven't tried flipping tips on a red oak yet.  Looks like it worked out good for you.

I like that bow Johnson and looks like the rework was the right call there. The unbraced profile and full draw bend say smooth to me and that chrono speed should more than get the job done, real nice job.

I really like that one. I'll have to get more adventurous with my next red oak board bow.

That's what is so fun about this.  A bow is never really "done."
