A couple more days and the under growth will now die.
-
I'll second that! Been spotty storms the last few days, but it keeps missing my area :-X
Rain Dance maybe ?

We have had a decent amount here, but we could use more..

I would take a pic of the yard but it's too depressing, dry and crunchy. 100 degrees and dry. Oh and now the ac went out last night. Typical summer. lol..
-
I wish we could send you some of ours. We have had nothing BUT rain since the winter on this side of the pond. Oh, OK maybe we had one or two good weeks back in March, but since then just endless rain rain RAIN !!! We're also being told that food prices will go up sharply, because the crops are just rotting on the fields. Its getting a bit depressing really....I'm just hoping that the weather will improve for the Olympics and so that some of us "backyard bowyers" can get out and make/shoot bows ;)

Burn ban now in effect

Shortage of rain here also. Weather report gave a 90 percent chance last night and was hoping for a little relief but we didn't get a drop. Looks bleak around these parts.

RAIN?
Whats That?
Worried about the creek running dry so no pump field water and then there is a concern about the well! A/Ho Joe

I wish I could send you guys some of ours. We have had 8 1/2" just in July and its not over yet.
-
My brother-in-law called yesterday from up in Iowa and said if they didn't get rain in 2 weeks the crops would fail. Hate to see that. We've had a wet early summer here, and we're not that far from Paul where he's very dry.

I dont think people know how very bad things are and iowa is in better shape than many states
-
We are only 30 cfs difference from the low for this date set in 1931! There are some heavish clouds outside now - quite the tease!

Our part of Texas was that way until this spring. Our lake was 8' low, we got almost 2' high before they opened the spillway and let the excess go downstream, but there was at least one fish hatchery in the state that closed because the reservoir dried up. Thank God we got some rain here, but not far from here it's still a bad drought. Here's the US drought map: http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/ (http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/) I pray you guys that need it get some.

It's pouring the rain here right now. Rained almost every day for the last couple weeks. Wish we could send you some of it.
-
No rain again today. I have mowed twice all year.
-
I'm concerned about what's going to happen to food prices this winter. Livestock feed prices are already high and folks are holding on to any hay they have.

same here, although the rain a few days ago brought some pretty damaging hail just north of here

They say 54 more days of no real rain. Does anyone know the effect this will have on walnut trees.
-
im not sure but im guessing not good :'(
-
I have 200 midlife walnut trees. I hope they come out of it OK. Maybe I should cut the undesirable trees around them to decrease stress.
-
We need it, too! There hasn't been measurable rain at our house in months. The last I heard, we need ten or eleven inches to pull us out of the drought!! I'm afraid the wells are going to start drying up soon if we don't get a LOT of rain.
I'm in SW Missouri. No rain in the forecast, either. We've had a few spotty storms pass through the area, but they keep missing our house.

We have a couple hundred walnut trees on our property, Iowa. Previous droughts haven't hit them too hard. I did lose one mature one last year that still has to come down. It's hard to tell if last year's drought or the tornado the year before got that one, though. It seems to hit my hickory trees worse. I've been losing one or two of them a year during each drought.
I have a couple of brand new peach trees I planted this spring. So far, they're even surviving this year. I've only watered them once since the drought started. I lost a mature peach tree in last year's drought. That's why I planted these! It's mostly hickory I have trouble with, though.

Burn ban now in effect
We've had one since early June. I heard a day or two ago that every county in Missouri has been declared a disaster area.
I'm sure it's not much different with our neighbors to the north. Hopefully we'll both get a lot of rain soon.
-
No rain again today. I have mowed twice all year.
I've only mowed once on the full yard (about four acres). That was right before we went on vacation in June. I touched up the front yard and down to the pond last weekend. Some weeds sprouted up.
I think all the grass has shut down.
Looking at the maps, it looks like ours isn't as bad as some other areas. It's just statewide. I hope all of us who need it start getting some rain soon. Our area is actually surviving it pretty good up to here. Last year, all of my tomato plants were dead by now and we lost all of our fruit. We got cherries and peaches this year and the tomatoes are limping along. The hay fields and corn are looking ok around where I live. Some solid rain would probably save the crops around here as long as we get it soon.
-
Here is Yosemite we got .01 inches yesterday! back to hot and sunny today!
-
I hate to say it but a little storm blew up out of nowhere this afternoon and we got a quick quarter inch in about 20 minutes. Lowered the temperature about 15 degrees too. Looked at the radar and it was a puny little storm, can't believe it came over us. Wish it was up in Iowa.

Man, I hope things get better for those going through this drought!! I live in the northwest, and it seems like summer is never going to get here......rain, cold, even for us at this time of yr. Crazy!

We went over 90 days with not a drop of rain. Then last Friday we got 2 inches in 30 minutes. Made for a great flash flood then it was all gone.
-
Still no real rain fall yet. The forester came over to talk tree management. The cherry tress are dropping leaves. The leaves at the top are brown. She thinks many of them will die. She said that the acorns were shed midsummer. I saw hickery nuts green and on the forest floor. Many ground plants dead. Deer will not have an easy winter. Turkey will find nothing to eat when working the leaves. I am watering the grass now to keep it green for fire protection. The earth has pulled away from the foundation. This can be an issue later when the rains do come. I have not seen it this dry before.
-
Same here, Iowa. We had pretty decent rain move through the state, but it just looped around my house. We had a few drops the other night while other areas were getting decent rain, but it wasn't even enough to wet the deck.
It's crazy. I don't think I've ever seen it this dry, either.
We sure could use a lot of it fast.
-
We've had some heavy thunderstorms around us but nothing significant on my place. Last week we registered .25 one evening and a couple of short bursts of less than .10 since. That's about all we've received since late May.
Got 3 cuttings from the alfalfa this year but only produced 1/3 of normal yield and mine was the most productive crop from nonirrigated in the immediate area.
The spring fed creek that winds 3 times through the property is still running about normal here but upstream about 6 miles where it starts is looking bleak.
Trees and shrubbery on the bottoms look good but have to credit that to the local springs.
We keep getting chances at rain but not much developing.

No rain

Same as Pat,it's like the May Classic around here only hotter. :)

Got up a little rain this morning. This should reduce the fire hazard a little.
-
Wish I could send some to yall,we have had thunderstorms every day for 2 months,,usually 1/2 to 2 inches at a time. With the past few years very dry I forgot how bad the weeds get!
-
we have had a couple of little showers to yesterday and today(finally) but we need ALOT more , apparently there is an arsonist running around setting fires and 125+ homes have been burned not to mention countless acres, i hope they catch him/her . it's just waaay to dry here.

I wish we could just get ONE day of that. We got a tiny bit of rain last night, but the ground was dry again when I walked out this morning. I doubt if we even got a quarter of an inch. It rained for maybe fifteen minutes and was raining when I went to bed. It seemed gone by morning.
I'm hoping some real rain will come through soon...real soon.

We had some lightning the other night but no rain. Talk about the worst of both worlds!
Hey, I just noticed your signature, Rick. We were in the Army at the EXACT same time. I was actually in from '86 to '90 then recalled in '91 for Desert Storm. I usually put '86 to '91 just to get it all in there, but I had a six month break in service.
Pretty cool.
