Any experience on cutting hackberry. Is it best to cut in the spring/early summer or does it do ok cut anytime. Any info is appreciated. thanx keith

Spring to mid summer if you want the bark to peal off easy.You can cut it now and it may come
off without to much trouble.If the bark peals off you have your back right there but if it don't
you can get it off ,just a little more trouble.Most Hackberry I have done has pretty good growth rings and isn't much trouble to chase a ring so either way will do. :)

Keith, here in Kansas the spring is the best. I cut a bunch in July and the bark would not come off. I have cut it in the spring and it peeled easily. Coach

The one hackberry I've made turned out nice. Start a little thicker with your roughed in limbs then you normally would with osage or hickory. The finished bow will typically have thicker limbs then osage of the same weight. :)
