Title: Hickory Recurve
Post by: hammertime on September 08, 2007, 03:25:46 pm
This hickory piece started out as a straight stave longbow.  I didn't like the way it shot so I steamed in some recurves , heat treated the belly and re-did the handle area.  The bow is 65" NTN.  1 3/4" at the fades to 1/2 at the tips.  56# at 26" of draw.  I really like how this bow shoots, smooth to draw, fast and whisper quiet - it's ready for the hunt.  The finish is part tung oil, part true oil.  Hope you like it.  Thanks
P.S. hickory is still one of my favorites

Great looking bow.  Sure is great that you took a bow you weren't happy with and turned it into one that you are. Justin

Jeff, Adjust your camera to the lowest quality pic. It should come out 640x480. Thats the only way I could get it to work for me after 2 years of fuzzy pics.
Hickory is my second favorite wood. It makes great bows...only humidity can weaken it >:(...but it will come back ;). I'm into recycling bows I built a while back and have been pleased with the outcome. You did a good job of recovering this bow. Tiller looks great and the artwork is nice.     Pat

Nice job Hammertime.  Aren't you worried about using a predator skin for a quiver though?  It seems like scent would be a problem when hunting?

Few more pictures, hop they look better.I did not think about the scent issue but it is an old pelt I had tanned and hung on my wall.I changed it to a quiver a couple a years a go,shot a doe last year with it hanging in the tree with me.Thanks for the comments.

Do my eyes serve me wrong or is the belly crafted to be "hollow :o"

Hey Hammertime!  I finally figured out what I like BEST about your bow!  The arrow ledge is on the right side of the bow...  :[)  Glad to see another lefty out there...
