Bow building, arrow making, knapping, fire making, etc, etc, etc! Nightly concerts with well known preformers(well known to us), a jar or two passed around and just some good old fun for all.

Pappy
-
I know Pappy. As soon as I saw the dates to the IBO I knew it would have to be another time.
Cipriano, it is at my place here in NC. We have 25ac.
-
I would love to make it Pat, but I think my travels are over for this year. I just went to PA this past weekend, and have battled the spinning and dizzies since Sunday. Looks like I will not be there in person, but sure will in spirit my friend.
-
thinking about comeing on friday will you be around after noon and do i need to bring any thing
-
Pat sure would love to attend, but it's 17 hrs from here. Maybe someday soon.
Cipriano
-
Bryan, I'll be around all day Friday. Come when you can. I'll have to see who's coming and what folks plan to brign before I can say what we need. ;) You will need your guitar and Jeremy(if he remembers who I am) ;D
Do you think David and Cora will come? I kinda doubt it. I sent Steve Parker a PM about it but haven't heard back from them.
Cipriano, I wish you could come but I totally understand. Try to get to the Classic. It is worth the trip!!! 8)
-
Hi Pat,
I plan to be there on Friday afternoon...hope I can back the little camper back in the same place as the time before? I do have cigars and will bring flutes if anyone wants to do some trading. I will also bring cigars. :) Have been playing flute with guitar players...so maybe someone will do a rythym and we will get something going. You ready for another lesson?
All this said my daughter is due August 4th so if she comes early I will be heading to DC to see my first grandchild instead...
BTW...The possibles bag is working great,
Rand
-
Rand, I'd miss anything for a grand daughter! 8) Congrats granpa. ;)
I'll save your spot for you. Looking forward to seeing you again.
Cigars welcomed!
-
Well with the IBO moving, perhaps next year I can make it, I'll take the wife on another vacation nex year.
-
I understand, Bear. Everything seems to happen at once and priorities go to the top of the list...plus Twin Oaks is way closer to you than my place. ;)
-
Bryan,
My wife and I dropped by Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument in Texas back a month ago. We got to know the ranger (she now has one of my flutes and I am making her a tiger maple flute too soon)...anyway I have a small amount of flint if you want to try to knock something out of it...might not be enough to even try...pretty stuff!! You can look up Alibates on the internet...neat place. Glad to hear you are coming.

Pat,
Worked on some "Creek Two Fletch" arrows today. Fun to try to learn how...using some feathers from New Mexico that my old Doc gave me...been settin' in the freezer til this morning. d:^) Will bring my "attempt" up to the Camp-o-ramaR
Rand
(PS...thanks for showing me how to do that smiley face!)
-
Rand, once you get the hang of the 2fletch you'll be surprised how well they fly. Bring up your stuff and we'll mess around with it. I have some cane, some feathers and some sinew but not too much of any of it. Only 3 weeks! 8) Should be good and hot by then. ::)
-
Hey Pat, I know I've talked about coming down for a couple years now. Once again, I"m going to try to make it. Heck, it would be worth the trip to make some 2-fletched arrows with you and Rand.
I got a 3 Rivers gift card for Christmas last year and bought fletching jigs and feather cutters. I swear making 3 fletched arrows is much harder than doing the 2-fletched ones. And with my shooting abilities or lack there of, I don't see a difference. But, I'm just dogged enough to keep making the 3 fletched until I learn to do it right, THEN, I go back to the 2 fletched one. :)
-
Hey Pat, I'm going to try to make it. If I do I'll be there Friday afternoon sometime. I have turkey feathers for two fletch. Is Barry Mcall and the Parker clan coming? Haven't seen them in a while.
Alan
-
Alan, hope you can make it. I look forward to seeing you again. I have emailed Steve but haven't heard back. I haven't contacted Barry but I will.
Come on down if you can Hedge.
-
hay pat.
Im going to try to make it up that way this year. missed the last 2 yrs and was really bummed. you bday parties are a great get together. Cant wait.
see you soon.

Pat, I just looked at my request off from work sheet for July and quess what, I haven't requested any time off for the month. That's not right. haha I'm going to do my very best to make it down there. I'm getting excited about the trip.
Since, I'll be a newby, tell me a bit about the set up and activities. Besides the arrow making meantioned above, will there be bow making? Should I bring a tillering stick and a stave horse? I have a 50" osage stave that I'm very excited about. I could have it worked down and sinewed by then. I'd love to have someone looking over my should, giving advice when I start tillering this little beast.
Is it female friendly or mostly a guys outing?
Camping--If my wife is coming, I'd probably pull our 13 1/2 camper. If it's just me, I'll tent it.
I have quite a few turkey wing feathers I could bring. Shaft would be tomato stakes. Sinew, I have some but not a bunch most of which would need to pounded and shredded. Hide glue--I have some flakes, but I could make more. My technique involves a crockpot, but I could adapt and over come with a double pan and water and a can of sterno or a couple charcoal briques.
-
Dave the camp-o-rama is family friendly but not a lot to do other than primitive skills, eating, drinking and latenight music. ;D There will be a few wives and a kid or two usually. Because of the amount of room the trailer might be tight but we could probably accomidate it somehow. Rand is bringing his little trailer to camp in. We do have electricity at the barn but not elsewhere. Will have a Port-a-Jon on site. No running water except the creek but I can get water from my house up the hill.
Bring any projects you want to bring, we can and do do it all. I have a tiller tree and a bow bench, small vise and tools. I even have plenty of hide glue. If you have room for your bench, bring it but it is not necessary. Knapping seems to be the most prominent activity but we do it all. I have a crock pot for sinewing and form and a heat gun for bending and straightening.
Wade I hope you can make it. Bring Kate too it you'd like.
-
I just meantioned your gathering to Schuy. Before I could finish my sentence she said "you should go, babe." Woohoo a hall pass. She's going away the weekend before on a girls retreat. So, I'll be flying solo.
-
When you're ready for directions let me know.
-
Hey Wade,
Glad to hear you are coming...it will be interesting to see what you have been "nto" since I last saw you at the knapin a couple of years ago. Been taking care of "Turkey"...she has been with me several times out deer hunting...might be she has been waiting for a lucky two-fletch to bring home the meat. :)
Rand
-
Pat, I'm assuming this event will be held near Brevard?
-
Yes Dave. I actually live 10 miles south of Brevard.
-
I'll PM you to get directions when it gets closer to the shin-dig
-
Will you be coming I-40 to Asheville?
-
That's the way I will be coming.
-
Pat, you know we'll be there, you don't even have to ask -been looking forward to it since we pulled out of your driveway last year. :) I'll try to get Barry rounded up, he's been working wierd hours and swingshifts lately, hope he can make it.
-
I hope Barry can make it too, Steve. I'm so glad to hear the Maggie Valley Parkers will be there.
-
Wouldn't miss it, or haven't so far. :)
-
Hey Steve, glad to hear ya'll will be there! I hope Barry can make it too.
Alan
-
Barry's gotta work 12-hour night shifts that weekend, probably won't make it. :(
-
I'm going to have to sit this year out, unfortunately. I'll be heading home from Hatteras Island with the family on the 21st.
-
Sorry you won't be joining us this year Jonathan...and sorry Barry won't be with us either. Wade better get his butt here! >:(
If you have an idea what you might be bringing as far as food goes speak up so we can all coordinate. I have a Weber grill. I don't think we have a big grill/cooker coming this year so a few portable grills might be needed. If someone has a bigger cooker I have seasoned red oak for heat.
It is getting time to hang a few tarps, do a little clean up in and around the barn, hunt out and kill all yellowjacket nests. Only found one so far. ;) and order the Port-a-Jon. 8) I've mowed twice and might go again if I have time.
-
Pat, me and Bryan were talking a couple days ago, I think the cooker problem is solved. ;) I'll be bringing a good bit of food for sure, not sure exactly what yet.
Be sure and don't forget to rile up all the yallerjackets, stock copperheads in the firepit/well, and strow a few quart jars of chiggers and ticks around in the grass-just wouldn't be the same without 'em.
-
No copperheads yet this year but we do have a few big(7'+) black snakes. I saw one the other day in the rafters of the barn. Only a few ticks. I think you guys bring the chiggers because they never bother me. ::)
Is Bryan stealing David's cooker? ;D
-

I just learned this week, that my boss is going on vacation starting the 21st and another employee quit. Me getting off for the 20-22 is pretty iffy at the moment. grrr I should know this evening if I'll have off for next weekend.
-
Dat gone it. I got my schedule today. I'm working Friday 20th AND Sunday the 22nd. It is probably the first time in 3 years I haven't got off when I've requested. I'm going to see if I can trade with someone, but that's pretty doubtful.
I was looking forward to hanging with you all. AND, getting some help with this shortie, 50" osage I've been battling for the last 3 weeks trying to tame the twists, reflex and deflex of this little sappling. I'll post pics when it comes off the form.
I hope you all have a great time. Bend an bow and elbow for me.
Dave
-
Sorry you won't make it Dave. Looking forward to seeing you. Maybe next year. I gaurentee at least an elbow will be bent! ;)
-
I sure hope all has fun as I know it will be. Take plenty of pictures please :o :o :o :o
-
Hi Pat,
Can you remind me of the directions? Will be coming up I 26.
Rand
-
Rand, exit I-26 at the Asheville Regional Airport/NC Hwy. 280 and head west past the airport. This 4 lane will take you right to Brevard. At the junction of Hwy 64(Walmart on right), Hwy 280 becomes Hwy 64 west. Follow this 4 lane into downtown Brevard and at Courthouse Hill take a left on Hwy 276 towards Greenville SC. Go out 276 for about 4 miles and make a right on Island Ford Rd(across from Mud Dabbers Pottery). Go out Island Ford for 2 or so mile and just past Island Ford Body Shop(on right) take a left on Walnut Hollow. Go out Walnut Hollow 3 or so miles to a left on Carson Creek Rd(I will have an arrow here). Follow Carson Creek about 2 miles. You will go under an overpass and the road snakes down hill. Turn on Calico Lake Dr on your right(arrow here) and my drive is the second on the left(gravel)...and you are here! See ya soon! 8)
ps. all milages were estimates! ;)
-
Sorry pat. Not going to make it to this one. I'm up in MI. Not gonna make it back in time.
Hope you have a great Bday and party.
Talk to you more later.
Wade
-
Sorry you won't be making it Wade but that is a long commute. ;) Heck, its a long commute from your house.
-
Looks like the weather will cooperate. We might get an afternoon shower but the temps will be comfortable. This morning it was 63 deg and it should be cooler each morning after. Be sure to pack your sweat shirts or a light jacket for the evenings. Day time temps will be in the upper 70s or maybe low 80s.
If you need to call, my home # is 828-884-6205 and my cell is 828-507-8603 Cell servive can be sketchy sometimes here.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. 8)
-
Sometime during the weekend Pat, get as many as you can together and get a group photo of them sending me a toast towards my surgery Tuesday. That should make things just fine ;)
-
Will do, Charlie. Looking forward to your return in the future. ;)
You are in my thoughts my friend. I'm sending positive vibes out into the universe for a sucessful surgery and speedy recovery for you, Charlie. You've got lots of folks praying for you. That can't hurt. ;)
-
Hi Pat,
Thanks for the directions...will head out of here around 12 if all goes to plan...

Well, Patty's 2012 Camp-O-Rama is over for another year. I've got some pic to share and so does Tina Parker. I'll try to get them downloaded and posted later today or tomorrow.
We had a small group of about 11 or so but that made for a nice intimate group. Rand(Catahoula) built a bow from a HHB stave he got from Marc St Louis and it came out nice. I bit of knapping went on all weekend, lots of great food(Thanks Tina and Steve Parker and Brian Irwin) and just a great time was had by all. 8)

Good pics....looks like a good time was had. I would like to come up next year if it is possible for me.
-
You are welcome to come, James. It will be about the same time next year. I'll post an exact date a month or so before hand. The mountains can be a pleasant surprize to a flatlander in July. I know, I moved here 22 years ago from Bluffton. I do miss the saltwater but not the heat, humidity and skeeters. ;)
