Hi everybody! This is my second bow. I made it for my girlfrend. Draw weight is 33#@ 27'' and lenght is 64''. Made from ash, 2 layers of sinew and ostrich leg rawhide backing. This bow is not ready jet. Its waiting for oiling and handle covering.

one heck of a sinew job!! like the skin, never seen that on a bow. You sure that is only your second bow?
-
I'm very sure ;D
-
Maitus, that ostrich hide is fantastic. Very nice looking bow
-
Thank You! :)
-
I love it! The ostrich skin is awesome.
-
that looks great, well done on your second bow, im working on mine now :D. did you kill the ostrich yourself or can you buy ostrich skins?
-
Looks like a Molle with some reflex? Ohhhh man, really nice shape and that ostrich is killer.
-
I bought these skins.
-
That's beautiful. I've never seen ostrich skins used before.
Amazing work for a fiftieth bow, let alone your second.
-
I love that ostrich, and the shape of the bow is unique. My ma has Emus, now I'm gonna be huntin 'em...
-
Fantastic job!!! I really love the looks of that design. I can't wait to see finished pics and a full draw pic.

This is the beauty of the PA family right here. Those of us that started building bows 25 years ago built many bows that all looked pretty much the same, or like those of the people we worked with. It took years to master the cool backings and finishes. Now, with all the information at your finger tips here, people are turning out beautiful and unique bows right out of the box. Excellent finish work. I'm anxious to see the money shot.

Wow! Another must build bow to add to my list. Were those skins fresh and where could I get them?
-
Thank you all for good words :). I'm very happy that you like my work. This bow shold have been riflex-riflex bow but obviously i used too much sinew and the belly of the bow is lightly compressed. This amount of sinew i used is probably enough for hornbow ;D .1 layer of sinew for ligh bow would have been enough.
Wagnerwood, these skins were salted. But i have no idea where you could get them. If you lived in Europe i could send them to you. I have ostrich farm very near. But to send them to America is to complicated. To send them to you i should dry them before. I'm sure that there in your big country you can find a lot of similar farms :).

Whatever made you think of using ostrich leg rawhide? I can think of 100 people on here that wish they'd have thought of it. Very nice looking bow. And for your second, your sinew job is fantastic. It's obvious to me that you took your time on this bow.

Hi Maitus!
Another great Bow! I got a some questions though ;)
What kind of Ash did you use here? Is this common Ash / Fraxinus excelsior, somewhere from Europe? I am really anxious to know how it responds to sinew backing. I thought it would not be strong enough in compression to handle sinew backing.
I really hope i am wrong though, still got some Austrich sinew and dried Ash around...
Best regards, Leo

I really do not know the answer on your question. I have not made any men's bows from ash but seems to me that junniper is better.
-
:o :o :o 8)
-
This is common Ash sapwood.
-
Thanks Maitus!
Common Ash is good bow wood in my opinion. The best characteristic of it is the fakt that there is a lot of it around here where i live ;) Juniper is very rare though.
Well it is a great bow, have fun with it!
Best regards Leo
