Title: First trip to second hand store.
Post by: Slackbunny on June 12, 2012, 09:29:25 pm
Well I just completed my first "salvage mission" at a local thrift store for some "raw materials". Picked up some nice brown leather in the form of a purse, and a silk scarf that should back several bows all for under 10 bucks. I felt a little goofy rumaging through the women's section but hey, its all part of the bowyer experience I guess.

Next time look for a slow cooker for making hide glue and a hot plate for warming it up to sinew a bow.  An old coffee maker hot plate works also.

The last time I was in a second hand store I picked up the cutest little black leather skirt you ever seen.
Got it home and started taking it apart at the seams with a stitch cutter.  My wife comes home and asked if I found anything.  I stood up an held the skirt up in front of me.  She said " Honey that cant be more than a size 6.  It will never fit you. " ;D  You just got to know my wife.

After that she wanted to look at it.  I handed it to her.  She looked it over and asked what I payed for it.  I replied $ 5.00.  She looked at me with raised eyebrows and said " You have just ruined a never used $200.00 goat skin leather skirt."  I forget the brand name but she recognized it right away from the tag.  It seems that the tiny zippers have a seal put in them that has to be removed before it can be warn.  The seal was still in place.

I hope to use the skirt in a billows I am making for my fireplace.

No need to wonder about that SlackBunny anymore.  Now I can't help but picture him in a Playboy Bunny costume.

Now I'm gonna need therapy or a more beer.  Maybe both.

Oh no, that kind of image never really goes away. Its been etched into the back recesses of your mind, waiting to come out in a hypnosis therapy session years later.
