Well this is my latest bow , It's a 65" rawhide backed hickory recurve. The recurves are pretty short but the string touches the tips at brace. This is the first recurve I've made in a long time.( I usually can't shoot recurves well) The handle is layered hickory and maple .The bow pulls 50#@ 28 .The bow shoots really hard and fast.I stained the bow with dark ebony stain. which turned the rawhide and wood a dark gray color..I named the bow"The Gray Ghost" I'm really happy with the way this bow turned out. I know th tiller looks kinda off but I have a pretty severe cant when I shoot.Hope ya enjoy

;) Nice bow. Hickory is great stuff. That one should last you a life time. I like that arrow too. Looks like bow season needs to hurry up and get here.
-
Nice bow Bill. Great bends!
-
Looks good bill....wasnt that a stave from the supposed acid fungus tree?
-
I hope it was.........I have one of those fungus staves and cant wait to tear into it.
-

Thanks alot guys for the kind words...The bow came from one of those infected staves..After seeing 2 good bows blow I decided to back it with rawhide
-
You may see three good bows blow soon Bill! Chris gave me a stave from that tree and I plan on letting her go naked. We shall see!
-
I made another bow from that tree that was cherry bark backed( Beautiful) and it shoots great... The 2 bows that broke the outer sapwood was really spongy....Good luck PD
-
Thanks for the luck Bill. It may be time for my raw material tightwaddedness to let go and I could use the carp skins I have been sitting on. They serve a dual purpose.
-
Nice one. Could we get a better look at the rawhide backing?
-
Yeah I'll try to get a better picture.. The rawhide was goat from Tandy leather. Got a set for 12 bucks and sanded it down to around 3/16...I glued it on with titebond 3 and wrapped with an ace bandage.. The bandage left markings in the backing that really stand out with the ebony stain.

It's very nice, Bill. I like the arrow, also.
Great job!
-
Love the tiller curve and the flipped tips!
-
Bill Hickory ;D you have come far my friend. I'm not a fan of hickory bows but I'm liking that one real well, great looking tiller an always did like the flip tips. Can't beat a good cane arrow. Later Bob

I did a lot of shooting with some of the guys this weekend....The humidity was very high and I couldn't notice that much of a difference in the performance...the bow was performing just as well as the Osage and Hornbeam bows the other guys were shooting....I've learned that hickory needs a good tiller,a good finish, and have the belly heat treated well to perform well in humidity.JMO.....Love this bow.

What is there not to love?
