Title: Stuff and services to trade.
Post by: badcolesonbad on May 26, 2012, 03:09:29 am
Im looking for knowledge and bowyers near me. A well as a decent beginners bow stave or books. I am a painter, and I hang drywall and come with references. I braid and weave a pretty decent rockman sling to as well as slings woven from para cord. Im in the Galveston TX. area PM if interested. If you want to swap stuff let me know what you are looking for. Thanks much.

O Gus....this young man needs some help.  I wish I were closer, but I'm up in Dallas.  Hopefully Gus can get with you.  Not sure who else is down your way, I know there are a couple more at least.  If you feel like a road trip up this way I will for sure send you home with a stave.  Good luck.

I'd like to see a picture or two of your weaving, even if it isn't done with primitive cordage.

Sorry been off the PC for a few daze... :)

badcolesonbad, I'm in Houston up on the West side of town.
If you get up this way we'll have to get together and talk about bows and may be make some shavings...
I should be able to get an Osage Stave into your hands and get you lined up in the right direction.

Welcome Aboard Primitive Archer!

Im in the South East. I can defiantly connect up, and even bring a hand full of slings made of non offencive materials. I only make them from para cord because I can bang them out fast, and kids love them. Working on pictures.

This one is made of sisal. I gave it away, but I can do another in no time. Sisal makes an awesome sling.

Those are really slick.  I'm thinking a flemish splice bowstring will be no problem for you. :)

And they are dead easy to make. You only need twine and some time.

Good Looking Weapon indeed...

And some very Nice string work.
That is one facet of the Primitive Arts in which I've yet to dip a toe.
But I need to!

I will warn you, it is addictive. The upside of that though is that its cheap. I got 1,500' of sisal for $15.00. And you would be surprised how good you can get with practice. Ill have to show you one day.

they sure are nice looking.. I have made dozens of slings over the past couple of years and they are equal in my mind to archery... I absolutely love sending rocks or golf balls over two hundred yards away, with only the force of my arm...

Jon

P.S. Hey Cipriano, hows that sling I sent you working out?

Jon, that sling you braided up for me is nice. It chunks golf balls across my folks hayfield. Lots of fun to sling and send and that ball off ;)

I'm also in Houston too, not as experienced as everyone else but would be happy to help test out slings or make shavings

Sounds like we need to get something going.
Get some Houston folks together on a Saturday or Sunday and make some shavings.
I would love to get started on making Strings, Cordage, and Slings.
My work area isn't the best at present but y'all are welcome to come by, we can get you started on a stave or board bow.

This weekend is a no go for me, so it would have to be the second weekend in June at the earliest.
I should get the Houston Get Together Thread going again so as not to clog up badcolesonbad's thread.
As well as letting other Houston Folks know.

Glad to hear it! Sure is fun... When ever I go golfing and am slicing like crazy, I pull out my "sling driver" (my secret weapon) and send one out there 200 hundred yards to the dead center of the fairway..  ;D ;D

Okay, lets plan it for next Saturday the 9th then.

We can get going as early as folks want to.
I've got the band saw humming pretty nice so we have it available for wood work.
I have some Rock and tools available for knapping.

I'll throw something down on the smoker for us to eat. :)

Who ever is interested in coming drop me a PM and I'll send you the address.

I'll post this on the other thread as well.
