If it was me, I would leave it as is. But as they say, 'no guts no glory.'
seriously, I would look at the platform(s) and let that tell me to stop or go.
-
bevan i went a little farther after i posted the pics, one stalled a bit, so i'm on the fence about it, but i got another about ready to blow, i mean go, Bub
-
I figure you got a nice point there. If it has stalled at all, I would leave it. No reason to bust that beauty when there is plenty of other stuff waiting.
-
yeah it ain't no Will H point but i'm kinda proud of it, Bub
-
No it is not a Will H point. But it is a BEAUTY Bubby point. GREAT work Sir!!
-
It's a pretty color and I love those clam shell flakes. I'd probably leave it and start on the next. :)

Bub that looks real good to me :) they kinda stall on me alot...if you have a diamond file just file till you get the platform below center toward the side with the most mass. If it dosent take with the first strike make sure your punch is below center within the platform. The
Only way they ever break on me is when I fail to do this... The ears aren't really very fragil until they get around an inch or so. That when you really got to be careful. Also be sure to keep the corners of the notch as square as possible, it helps the flake detach a little easier ;) good luck! No guts no glory! It's just a rock ;) :)
-
Bubby, Looks like ya got it now 8) If they stall will's got ya covered. Looks good ;D If ya like it quit but if your feeling brave just hit it :o Later Bob
-
thank's will and bob, i think i'll keep this one as is, gonna get a bunch ready to notch and kinda keep a physical record of how i'm progressing, might make a cool display, i was practicing tonight at work and got a lot deeper notch, then i got greedy >:D, Bub
-
well done bubb. excellent. i do agree with what was said, no guts no glory. thats how we learn
-
If you have some flakes laying around about the thickness of a point try learning on them. You'll have it down in no time ;)
-
I like it!! Those notches look great from here.
-
Your makin me nervous bub ::). What do ya mean you got greedy, hmm? I'm with most everybody else - no guts no glorry and i have plenty of half points to prove it >:D ;D..
-
well ya shamed me into attacking it again, but i dont think i can do any more damage, well i can but i think i'll stop on this one, i got the notches almost 3/4", that's the deepest i've got so far

Yea, that'll be far enough pilgrim ;D. Brave soul! Looking at that crack i can't believe it held. Now you got a nice looking point :).
-
thank's Paul, so if i take and beat on it till just before it blows it's a good point >:D, this punch notching is addicting ain't it, Bub
-
Yep that be far enough, great job that baby looks like she's 1 hit away from being a take down broadhead :o :o. Bob
-
yeah bob i'm gonna throgh some superglue in it and call it good, Bub
-
Well done Bub! I knew you could do it! You can definatley get addicted to punch notching... ::) just look at me. I can hardly make anything without contemplating deep basal notches :) I think tougher flint like Texas stuff is better for it though... I have blown way more apart on heat treated stuff than on raw material. I bet with obsidian it's even tougher. Anyway, congrats!
-
thak's will, i just got a box of texas rock from cowboy, if it dont all end up gravel there's gonna be some that end up andices, Bub
-
I guess that makes sense bub. I've always heard that a self bow at full draw in 9/10 broken. So i guess a deep notch with a crack in it is the way to go ::) ;D. Good luck with that tx stuff. If it ain't tough enough for deep notching then i don't know what is...
