This nasty stave came from a 6" diameter dead standing osage tree i cut last summer that has been dead for several years. It had some bug damage to it,but it was so pipe straight i decided to take the gamble and hope i wood find good wood unferneath the damage. Well, after debarking/removing sapwood i did get down to something semi managable. It has 3 small holes in it and lots of natural checks along and on the back, and some on the belly. A couple checks go right up to and thru two of the knot holes. For some reason this stave was telling me to make a Molly out of it despite its appearences. I will be honest I was skeptical, but now im a believer. Osage is awesome stuff and can take it. I named her Three Eyed Molly for obvious reasons. And I Love Her So Much :-*
The stats on the bow are.....60"ntn......50@26".....17.8 ounces of arrow flinging fury......13" long working limb....13" levers(50/50 ratio)....1 1/2" wide full width of the lenght of the working limbs...and my goodnes scary narrow tips >:D...and it maintains an inch of reflex right after she is unstrung, and rests at 1 3/8".
thanks for peeking,n as always enjoy it for what its worth...Chris

heres unbraced,braced,and the money shot!!!!!

something wicked this way comes, and it's your bow, wicked cool blackhawk, Bub
-
Dude! Sweeeeeeeeet :D
-
I one time knew a gal with that name ??? Superb looking stick with more of those nearly invisible tips, job well done...again ;)
-
I love the dye job man. This is a fine example of just what osage can handle. It has wind checks all through it, knot holes and bug damage yet allows you to build a highly stressed bow design and perform well. LONG LIVE THE KING!
-
that is a beauty Blackhawk love all of it. looks like it could launch an arrow.
-
That is just stunning. :-X
-
very nice. I like the dye job! Tiller is great too! :D
-
Simply Awesome!

Wicked awesome blackhawk! Love the color scheme too.

Very cool bow. I bet with those narrow limb tips she is a real screamer! 8)

Incredible bow! I am interested how long she lasts with all those checks and holes...
Jon

That bow has some cool character. Way too push the limits of that Osage... especially bug damaged. Tough stuff for sure . WOW!
Jon

That thing is awesome. Please bring it to the Classic so I can see it in person.

Nice job BHawk....mean color combo black-n-gold...mmmm.

Most all osage is awesome but when you take it and do that with it, its really awesome, great job
you should be really proud!
Jamie

Holy Molly, what a bow. Be carefull, you could poke an eye out with that thing. Super job.
What did you use to stain the levers? I love them.
-
"17.8 ounces of arrow flinging fury" Sweet! Still pushin the envelope as usual I see. I'd expect nothing less. How's that thing shoot? Can't wait to check it out! Off to chase some more turkey tomorrow!!

I must have come back to this thread a dozen times now, can't get over those levers. This bow would kick a$$ in the flight shoots.
-
MAN O MAN !..... THAT is a NICE looker!
-
PMed you my address.
Just kidding. :D
Those levers/tips are just incredible.
-
I am really digging this bow. Way to push the limits. I really want to try a Molly now.
-
Rad! ;D
-
That's pretty damn cool Blackhawk. I love it. Those levers look to be bending some, so their mass ought to be just about as low as possible. You've got to shoot it through the chrony with a 10gpp arrow for us.......please :) I really need to know how those levers affect the performance.
winner winner.. chicken dinner.....i was waiting for someone to make this keen eyed observation of the tips slightly bending.....if i have time ill chrono it down at the classic(if not then ill have to do it next week when im back home)....im leavin in an hour :D
and thanks for some more kind remarks guys...im pretty humbled by some of the impressive comments from some veteran guys and my fellow bowyers...all i can say is wow!!!! :D
-
Wow, that's a bit special, and we see some pretty cool stuff on here.
Excellent, the wood is really doing all the talking, no need for fancy adornments.
Del
-
Inspiring bow Blackhawk, thanks for sharing.
-
You worked wonders with that wood! Nice ! Jawge
-
Dang....impressive to say the least :o
Cheers
-
Every time I check out this bow I start humming "black eyed susie" in my head. Sweet work. I do wonder about having working levers that are so thin. I hope she holds up.
Thanks for showing,
Gabe
-
You know Gabe he only keeps that beard around to cushion the blow to his noggin when the skinny tips blow up!
-
Awesome! Dude! - you are fearless. Those tips are so thin - i bet she really screams. I want to know what the fps is on that badgirl.
-
Wow!! I have a hickory molly and I really like to shoot it.. Very impressive bow ;)
Cipriano
-
Don't know what I can say about that bow that hasn't already been said. Great job and beautiful bow!
I do however have a challenge for you >:D :
You and I go boar hunting. You with "three eyed osage molly" and me with my "boo backed ipe" (the one with the knife tapered tips) and whoever takes down the most hogs wins!
But wait! Here's the kicker. No bow strings or arrows! We have to stab the beasties with our bows! :o :o :o :o :o
....so, you game?
-
None of the pics are showing for me ???

I think Justin just had the missing folders reinstalled so the photos should be showing again...ill take a looksy tomorrow when my phone is back in service....the only downside of living in the boonies is no cell service ;)...wait thats a good thing..ll
-
Lookin good now, awesome bow man. I love the dark contrast, is that stain or what? Nice arrow point too.
-
Thanks mesquite...its a dye i use called trans-tint(they have lots of colors)....i like dyes better than stains
-
This post is going to save a few nasty staves of mine from the fire pit. Nice work as always!!!!
