I'm planning to try a bow with red osier dogwood. About the biggest I've found so far is 1 1/8" diameter, so I thought I'd work the limbs down to the centre, leave the handle round and strap it to a board to dry. I'll seal the ends, but I'm not sure about peeling it.
Has anyone tried this, and if so what is your advice about peeling? Rob

You can peel the bark off any wood as long as you seal the whole stave.

This is a 2" peach sucker I cut a month or so ago. I found the best side for the back and cut out the belly side of the limbs to the center pith but left the handle round. I left the bark on and sealed the ends before I tied it down to a form. I plan to let this sit at least a few more months and maybe even a year before I mess with it.

Guy, this is my first peach. It was a sucker from the root stock of a plum tree I have. It developed peaches but they never filled out and just dropped off, hard, fuzzy green things. I decided then that it would make a better bow than it was being a peach tree. ;)
