3 months later my first bow is done. Bow building is so much fun. i love it. i cant wait to start my next one.
the epoxy fixed the handle.
the bow is red oak with a walnut stain and drywall tape backing. i thought the backing would be ugly but the paint helped.
the bow is 41#@28"
the full draw is pic is bad my mom didnt get the whole bow. so another will be on sometime.
the tiller on the finished bow looks worse than it did while i was was making it, but im still happy its only my first one.
the string is also my first one.
thanks Pat fot the strings, dvd, and arrowhead
heres the pics
drumroll please

You did real good.A fine looking bow,and the tiller looks dead on.
-
The tiller looks pretty good to me also. A bit stiff on the outside ends of the limbs but I have seen other bows tillered that way. Good work David! ;) A bow you can be proud of.
I was more than pleased to send the string and materials along with the DVD. I knew you could figure it out. Bow building(et al) is fun. Keep up the good work. Pat

Awesome first bow david!! Way to git r dunn eh. Will you be doing any hunting withher? Sure hope so.
-
david, my first bow was a lot lot like yours, red oak board from home depot with sheetrock backing. the main difference between our bows is, your handle and rest section look beautiful! mine was sloppy and crude. i love what you did. the tiller looks good! i left my tips very stif as well, so much so to the point that hand shock was horrible. i knew to leave them stiff, but they looked like a ramp from the belly of the bow. yours looks much smoother ;D
you are well on your way to surpassing many, myself included. keep up the good work, and enjoy the next three months when you get your stave ;) with a start like that you can't go wrong -did you folow sam harpers website? that is how i built my red oak bow.

-
Congrats on a fine bow, BUT let me tell you there is no cure for the illness your flirting with. It gets harder each day to think of things other than the next bow.
-
Looks down right purty to me!!! I think you done a fine job ;)

Get your school work done. You can build bows either after school or on weekends. You are hooked now so you're gonna build 'em anyway. ;) ;D 8) Pat

Excellent bow! It took a real nice stain too, tiller looks spot on to me :). Wish my fist ones were that nice ;D. And the secret for about thinking about bows in school- draw them in a notebook so you can see how you want it to turn out ;)
-
I'm working on my first red oak board bow at home. Hopefully mine will turn out as good as yours!
It didn't break. You must've done something right.
:D
It's real pretty.
-
That one turned out pretty darn nice. Congratulations!
-
I think I have more bows in my math notebook than I have equations.. better start studying ::)
-
the bow shoots pretty good. i shot a 2inch group at 20 yards. but it wasnt in the middle of the target.
i started to draw bows in a notet book. its fun :)
-
i going to find a hardwood dealer and make my next one maple hickory blackwalnut or even osage
-
I'd say great job, if more people took 3 months and took their time they'd come out with successful bows, but since we're human we have to rush things to get instant satisfaction. You made a really nice bow.

Good job. Drywall tape for backing is pretty clever. Bookmarked, too, for Sept Self Bow of the Month
