Title: first Atlatl and dart
Post by: Carson (CMB) on April 10, 2012, 01:51:00 pm
This was my first attempt at an atlatl and dart.  The atlatl is Oregon ash with whitetail spike for spur. veg tan leather for loops and cherry bark wrap handle.  It is not a replica of anyparticular atlatl, I just threw some different things I had seen together.  The dart is bamboo with turkey fletch and elk bone hunting point.  I also made a vine maple practice point.  All wraps are with elk sinew.

I made this for my wife for Christmas.  She said she wanted an atlatl!

Not bad. I believe it'll do the job.

Here are a few of mine:

It's not exactly Primitive, but I make my darts from two Easton 2316 aluminum shafts with a coupler and insert. That way, I can interchange field points, broadheads and fishing points. Also, in two sections, the darts are easier to transport in my kayak (I zap carp with my atlatl).
