Title: Decrowning cascara
Post by: UserNameTaken on April 09, 2012, 10:29:10 pm
Is decrowning cascara a bad idea? I really like the color of the heartwood, and would like to squeeze as much of it into a bow as I can. I tried to decrown a compromised vine maple stave once though, and that was not a good idea. I'm wondering if decrowning cascara would be a similarly bad idea.

Do we know if the heartwood is suitable for the back of a bow?

No, Infact I will be posting a decrowned Cascara bow soon. I love Cascara, been talking about it for years!! Back it if you want it to stay together.

I'll give it a try. I've got about 5 staves to play around with.
