Title: Delta Bandsaw
Post by: Keenan on March 31, 2012, 11:35:25 pm
A few days ago I traded some steel for this nice older Delta bandsaw. Already had the extention block for a full 12" of vertical clearance. The original base was just angle iron legs and it was higher then I wanted so I built this base complete with suction port and swapped out the 1/2Hp motor for a 1hp motor. Added the power strip and spot lamp as well. She runs real smooth and ripped through an 8" yew log with ease.

Does that mount on a swing arm on your Stave Master, Keenan?  ;)
You can't beat the construction on the older saws. Nice updates.  8)

WOW great job on the saw. I've been watching the local newspapers and craigs list searching for a good used one but out here in the boonies they are a hard find.

That 1 HP should do you good for quite some time.

Nice work, Keenan!  She is a beauty.  I picked up an old Delta about a month ago.  It wasn't a full size but, a small benchtop version.  I bought it to take to some of the shoots where I do bow instruction.  I mounted it on a rolling cart.  Can't beat them oldies but goodies.

Thanks guys, I am really liking it and hopefully it will inspire me to get some of the stave pile trimmed up and sorted through.

Pat, I am thinking about taking my old saw and putting a gas motor on it to take out to our gathering to help trim up staves. It's hard to get myself to accept the thought of hearing a gas motor by the prestine and peacefull meadow. It may ruin the whole primitive scene

Fred this was a Craigslist find. I have searched long and hard for an older one.

Maybe you could hook your old one up to a bicycle!   the huffing and puffing might be worse than a gas motor.  The sawing of staves might sweeten the sound of the gas motor.

Those extension blocks are real handy.  You ought to be able to do some resawing with it, but even if you don't it's amazing how often you'll exceed the usual 6" clearance. You're going to love this bandsaw, Keenan.
