Title: Blackhawk Special BBO
Post by: blackhawk on March 20, 2012, 07:26:36 pm
Hey all...next to try with this design was in BBO(bamboo backed osage) form. Its 58"ntn...50@28"....11.5 ounces....slight bend in the handle....wenge over padauk tip overlays. its got a few minor flaws, such as a lil twist in the lower limb,a few spotty spots of bad glue lines, tiller is a hair off,and i lost an inch more than i wanted of my setback(slightly underbuilt)....BUT its a successful pleasant, sweet, smooth shooter in the end result. Even though things couldve been better it stilled turned out fairly well. We all know its hard to get a new design right the first go around, and it was a good learning experience as i am not a big glue up bow builder. Anyways here she is...enjoy it for what it is..and isnt :P  ;)

Your nuts! I bet it does smoke a mean arrow. You may need to rent a UHAUL for Marshall just to haul all your bows up for me to shoot. And I cant flippin wait to shoot ALL of 'em!

Good attempt on the R/D, Hawkster.  They can be tricky.  What did you use for glue?

Wow, those are some nice streamlined limbs. Looks like it will smoke an arrow. I'm don't do very many glue ups as well, but looks like you have a winner.

Seems like you like this style, another fine looking bow. Gonna have to put this design on my short list and see what it is all about. I will be biting my lip going that skinny on the tips though.

Nice job on that one. I have the materials for a BBO but have yet to tackle it. Headed to OJAM this weekend and I'm sure someone will be doing a tutorial on em so I will be watching.

the tips are sooo slim. Challenges me to make mine narrower as well. Seems like every bow I make they narrower and you have defintley raised the bar there.   Danny

cool bow.... 11 ounces thats extra light for a 50lb bow.. no dead weight in that bow , thats for sure.. how wide is it?  well made

Post by: blackhawk on March 22, 2012, 11:08:46 pm
thanks bob(rps3)...id sure like to see ya give this a try...it was a progression making my tips this thin...each bow got skinnier and skinnier till i made em to skinny on one and snapped it..lol. now i know exactly how far i can go and still have them be very durable in the hunting field....i can lean on these like a walking staff, chuck em down hill, thrown em across a ragin creek so i can cross it,etc...

thanks for the warning guy...yes i do have these tips down to an exact science...well almost anyways ;)

thanks druid 8)

thanks dragonman...yup..no dead weight in this one. its 1.3"wide working limbs
