Title: Staining Osage self bow.
Post by: Jarod187 on March 13, 2012, 11:39:18 pm
Hey everyone. I just finished my second Osage self bow and I am wanting to stain the wood black and fade it to the tips. Does anyone know what kind of stain i should buy? Thanks. I would like to buy it from a local store and not have to order online.
Thanks

I have used RIT clothing dye mixed with denatured alcohol to dye hickory and HHB with good results.  I have not tried it on osage yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.  What ever you go with, test it on a scrap piece first.

I use Fiebing's leather dye. it works really well and is easy to use.

According to Dean Torges Analine dyes work best with Osage. I haven't tried analine dyes yet myself.  Like Weylin said, Fiebing's leather dye works great.
