Title: Vine maple in progress
Post by: UserNameTaken on March 10, 2012, 08:23:42 pm
Hey, I've got this vine maple stick that I'm working on, and I'm thinking about making the limbs static from mid-limb to the tips. It's presently a pyramid design, about 5.5', 1 3/8" at the fades, 1/2" tips & presently about 1/2" thick.

Am I going to over-stress this thing if I go static from mid-limb out?

Yes, you will overstress the limbs with that design. Vine maple is terrific tension wood, but not nearly as good in compression.

Thanks Gordon. I had an inking that was going to be the case, and I'm glad that I checked. Didn't really want to ruin this one.
