Recently received an order of poplar shafts from Matt, and just wanted to say how great he was to deal with. Very patient with a novice wood shooter like myself. And the shafts are as great at others have led me to believe. I just hope I can do them justice in turning them into arrows.
For anyone looking, I'd heartily recommend him and his arrow shafts to anyone. Thank you, Matt!

Be looking forward to the finished product and you input on those for sure.

Well, I probably should have test-stained some scrap poplar before diving in, but I was too anxious to start. Needless to say, I should have waited and bought aniline dye rather than Minwax stain. After five applications I could only achieve a slight tint. Oh well, live and learn. Guarantees you'll have a another order from me once I get some scratch together, Matt! Hmm, birthday's coming up in a few months... ;D
I'm sure they'll shoot fine, thought, so I'm just waiting for the last coat of poly to dry.

kavogt, I recently made these arrows from the same poplar shafts you have. I used medium brown leather dye to stain the forward 2/3 of these arrows. The rear 1/3 was left undyed and 2 coats of Tru-Oil finish on the arrow.
I made these arrows for my 57" sinew backed osage bow I made not long ago and the medium brown dye comes pretty close to the aging osage in color. These poplar arrows shoot great and a lot tougher than POC. They fly out of this little bow beautifully.
