Title: truly sad or decisions, decisions
Post by: yehti on February 20, 2012, 04:53:36 pm
For many years the CTA has had its shoot here in North Carolina held on Memorial Day Weekend and the Tennessee Classic is on the first weekend in May.  This year however, it has been moved to the same weekend as the Tennessee Classic.  Since the CTA is based in Western North Carolina and many of us like to attend both shoots as they are relatively close together many of us will have to decide which to attend.  The CTA has moved its shoot from the Maiden Range to Kerr Scott Lake. This year there is no camping on site (pay sites away from the shoot), no coon shoot, only allowed to compete in one class of shooting and everyone must be off site by 7pm every day.  I think that its sad that me and my family must make a choice like this but I dont think I will have to debate this with myself for long.  It seems that all of the fun has been taken out of the CTA shoot.  Does anyone think I am off base with this "rant" or am I hitting the nail on the head. :( :(

You are hitting the nail on the head, Yeti. Those dumbies at CTA really screwed up now! We all knew it was inevidable after Herb Reynolds died but we just weren't sure when it would happen. They lost my support with this move of dates and locations.  :P I've been going to "Hickory" for many years and always donated a bow or something to the shoot. They are the loosers as far as I am concerned! It is really sad they had to take this route but they did!

I'll take the Tenn Classic any day over CTA!

Having never been to either, It seems a no brainer to me. I would go to the Classic and forward this thread to the other, just to let them know how bad they have messed up.

The "Hickory" Shoot(as it was known) was my home state trad archery championship. I was a member of CTA(Carolina Traditional Archers) for years but had to let my membership lapse. I still went to the shoot each year and always donated something for the raffle. Like I said above CTA is the looser in this deal.

Its my state shoot as well and its actually close to where I live.  That being said when the fun is gone its gone.  One of the reasons I think the Classic is so enjoyable to attend is that there is so much comraderie between individuals there.  I truly hope the CTA gets back on track for next year!!!

Hate to hear that. The Hickory shoot has been on my "to do" list for years but something always came up.

It will never be what it was when Herb was around.  :(  James, I never made it to Herb's house for the CTA shoot but I must have been to the first or second year at the Catawba Wildlife Club.
James, maybe we are the reason they changed the dates and place. We always had TOO much fun and the guys up the hill hated it!  >:D

maybe they changed locations because of those really smelly yehtis',,, last one i was close to smelled so bad it gave me the dry heaves :o :o,, all they do is wander around and poop everywhere,, cant walk anywhere without stepping in it.. guess thats how they mark their territory for other ugly smelly critters >:D

Seems like whenever there is a "New Sheriff " in town, he has to make changes, to show his "au-thor-a-tie!", well when the membership goes down, and the contributions go down, maybe he will listen to reason.  If not, oh well, sounds like up to now, you had a great thing going.

Been to the Hickory shoot the past 2 years, but have yet to make it to the Classic.  Had fun in Hickory both times, but that's mostly because I was hanging out with my son and the neanderthals in here.  I'll be heading to the Classic this year though, without a doubt.

It's looking like a lot of First Timers going to the Classic this year. Anybody tell them about the First timers rule?

Tim Beach said he had to close down the Alexacarri Plantation for 6 months while he dragged tires chained together to knock down all the piles left by the Yehti. Hog hunting there might never recover. :'(

Eddie, I ain't saying. Marie did say I get to stay in the BOM suite and drive around in the cool camo BOM golf buggy  8) She offered to have the PA jet pick me up, but I passed up on that.

Sorry to hear about a good thing being ruined... "To be or not to be... At the Classic? That is the question... Eh"

with all the changes for the hickory shoot, the choice is fairly easy for me this year!  maybe sometime in the future, maybe we can have a shoot at my farm.  take up where the elberton shoot left off.  don't think i could ever be as organized as pappy.

O ya you could Chris I get a lot of help. :) I really hate that they changed the dates,We get a lot of folks from NC and I have always wanted to make it over there,I thought this might be the year when I heard it was changed. I really appreciate the support yall give the Classic but know decisions like that are hard to make. :) :)

Not hard for me, Pappy. The Classic is #1 as far as I'm concerned. If I could only go to one shoot a year it would be the Classic! Us NC guys have been waiting for this to happen since Herb Reynolds passed away a few years ago.

Pappy the decision isn't that hard to make.  When one club changes the date of its biggest shoot to that of its neighbors, i feel that its just poor form.  Its one thing if the other club is 2000 miles away but this just isn't the case here.  Not to mention the rule changes, location change and camping situation.  Alot of the guys i see at the CTA shoot talk about having been to the Classic that year or attending it the next.  Not to mention that some of the Vendors will have to chose which to attend and Vendors will attend (in most situations) the location that they can make the most sales.  I doubt that Vendors like Big Jims will attend the CTA shoot if he has to pick because the customer base will be larger at the Classic.  Most archers i have meet will all but bend over backward to help out if they could (except robustus, he would just poke you in the eye with his thumb.  smile james >:D) but this is not a situation where the CTA didn't know about a possible conflict when they changed their date.

Has anyone heard from the CTA any other reason as to why the changes to the State Championship Shoot?  I would hate to be ranting about something if there were actually a good reason for the changes.

All I heard was they thought the Memorial day weekend made a conflict for some folks that wanted to go do family things. I also think that the ones that made the changes have never came to the Classic or ever planed to. I talked to several vendors at the Spring Fling in AL. this weekend that couldn't figure out the change,Big Jim is coming to the Classic,he said no brainier for him and that's what most I talked to said,we will see and hope it goes good for both.

I hope it goes well for the CTA as well but any other weekend but the one they chose would have been better and what about the change of location and the rule changes. I am still confused.
